drb
Long ago Carnegie Hall was a venue for Dance. Their site now offers an extensive slide show. While mostly Modern Dance, with patience one can find Mr. Balanchine rehearsing SAB students in 1945. In the same year he is shown rehearsing a Mozart/Stravinsky program. There is also a photo of Cynthia Gregory dancing in a 1981 Gala. http://www.carnegiehall.org/article/the_ba...exhibits.html## Link to comment

carbro
Thanks, drb! Interesting items in that virtual exhibition. I was unaware that Ravi Shankar had a dancing brother (Oct. 1933). What a talented family! Am I mistaken, or is the dancer supported by Balanchine's right hand (1945) a very young Tanaquil LeClerq? Link to comment
sandik
Thanks, drb! Interesting items in that virtual exhibition.I was unaware that Ravi Shankar had a dancing brother (Oct. 1933). What a talented family! Thanks indeed -- these are great! And yes, Uday Shankar was a very well-known dancer in the 20's and forward. He toured with Pavlova, and was, for many people in the US, the first example of Indian dance they saw. Link to comment
