Helene
Thank you for the info and links, amitava It's remarkable how much the photos capture both the position and the tension and elasticity in the dance, most notably in Thundering Silence, Morning Ground, Upon Calligraphy As the Form of Regular Script, Tchaikovsky Suite, Les Bras de Mer, and All River Red. bart
Wonderful photos, again. This is very evocative of what must have been an extremely interesting series of performances. It's good to have glimpses of companies I've only heard of -- and to have a close look at the Bejart dancer William Pedro. Thanks, amitava. whitelight
Yes, the photos of Pedro are quite stunning! I am looking forward to going through these.
amitava
You are welcome Helene and Bart. Yes there is quite some variety, and one can experience all the pieces in two days. I enjoy buffets, not because they are all you can eat, but due to the variety. Dance Festivals make me drool...is all I can say. Here is a link to a review... http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ent/ar...ce/3794651.html Some general comments overheard (but I did not personally confirm). The groups from China seem to use "textbook Graham technique" in their classes, as per once of the assistants (an ex dance teacher) of the producer. William Pedro is supposedly only 17. Pedro is a captivating and engaging performer. He has superb form and timing. I (and my camera) were very taken by him.
bart
Only 17! William Pedro certainly is charismatic and seems like the kind of performer it would be hard to take your eyes away from. I was unfamiliar with the name -- as, indeed, I'm completely ingnorant of Bejart's current troupe. I would love to hear what some of our classically-trained posters think of Pedro. I felt it would be interesting to see him in work other than Bejart's. Puck of course came to mind. (Apparently he already does a version of Firebird!!) The images of the Guangdong dancers are also very stunning and capture a sense of how pwerful they must be moving on the stage. Those are the two I'd most love to see in live performance.
