  1. I wish! Green green green. Giannina
  2. Meownotones II ---or--- Monotabby II
  3. I taped it when it aired and it's my favorite ballet tape. Time will take its toll of the tape and I dread its demise. Giannina
  4. Give us more information. We (read that "I") don't know what Ballet Bootcamp is. Let us (me) know. Giannina
  5. Royal Swedish Ballet. The URL I had for this site did not function. Does anyone have their URL or info on how I can get in touch with them? Thanks Giannina
  6. Mine's ready too, Manhattnik; I've never seen them and am looking forward to it. Thanks for the notice. Giannina
  7. I'm trying to refrain from commenting on this issue since, as many of you know, it's a thorn in my side. However, since I'm the forum's co-moderator.... I feel that applause in ballet should come at pauses within the ballet itself: the end of a solo or a pas de deux, the end of a scene or act, the end. Applauding particular dance steps/movements turns the performance into a circus act. This is an art form and should not be interrupted. In "Giselle", for instance, the dancing is so lovely and the mood so deep that applause is an intrusion anywhere but at the appropriate moment. I could go on and on.....and I have on other occasions. 8. Oh, Ed; you do have a way with words! Giannina
  9. I use the last name, but when you get down to it even that is a bit rude. So much nicer to say Ms. Makarova than Makarova; after all we're talking about artists. If someone calls me "Mooney" I bristle. (For newcomers, that IS my last name!) Giannina

  11. There's Nureyev's "Cinderella" with POB; on VCR tape but not sure about DVD. Giannina
  12. Thanks for telling us about your experience with Royal Ballet. I think the company is in wonderful shape at the moment; their dancers are simply wonderful. Giannina
  13. Manhattnik, yes, I did. It's the 2nd ballet to which I took Frank and it "took"; he fell in love with Kirkland at that point and it exists to this day. She was simply lovely. An aside: her get-rid-of-wings-mechanism didn't workand she had one devil of a time getting rid of them. Giannina

  15. I'm a life-long ballet lover but I did introduce a friend to the art. I had an extra ticket and invited her to come. She was hooked. She even got her own subscription and we have shared many ballet dinners and performances ever since. Then there's my husband who went kicking and screaming. It took me 15 years but finally........... Giannina
  16. Isn't that odd? I thought the question was easy and I voted for experience. Maybe that should read, "Isn't Giannina odd"! Giannina

  18. In movies you can film scenes over and over until you get a perfect take. You have the luxury of showing dancers only in scenes/takes that were perfect. Giannina
  19. Lordy, does that make me a local snob or what?! And I grew up in San Francisco. Giannina
  20. I don't think Eifman has been to California for a year or two so I hope I'm not missing anything. I am a die-hard classical ballet fan and didn't expect to like Eifman at all. But I did...not wild about it but if his company came again I'd see it. Let's say my thunb is horizontal. Giannina
  21. I didn't know you could do that! I have questions. Do you make DVD copies off of tapes? Other DVD's? You said you could make the DVD for USA formatting (zone 1). Can you take any tape/DVD from any area and copy/format it for zone 1? You mentioned $45 for shipping and handling. I don't mean to quibble but isn't that a bit high? I don't know how much blank DVD's cost so that may factor in (didn't even know there were blank DVD's). Should we send you blank DVD's for what we want copied? What is the quality of the copied DVD's? Do you lose something in the duplication? I might think of other questions. Thanks so much for the offer, Eugene. Giannina
  22. Nina Ananiashvili. I used to consider her boring; I'd avoid her. Several years ago I saw her in "Swan Lake" with ABT and it was one of my weepy evenings; she was gorgeous. Since then I see her whenever I can. I saw her R&J from the 2nd row of the orchestra and it was so moving that I was in the ballet rather than just seeing it. Giannina
  23. I adore all ballet but, in general, I prefer the story ballets. There is one huge benefit to ballets without stories: they are shorter so several can be presented during one performance and it gives the audience a chance to see several principle dancers rather than the few allotted to a story ballet. When I see a ballet company for the first time, or for the first time in a long spell, I usually opt for a mixed bill. Giannina
