  1. The first ballet dancer I ever noticed with a short haircut was Stacey Calvert. I also remember that Kyra Nichols cut her hair shortish, i.e., just above the shoulder blades, and if I remember correctly, Judith Fugate kept hers around the same length for a number of years. But both Nichols and Fugate could put their hair up, although I don't know if they added more bun.

  8. At the end of a review of Pacific Northwest Ballet's "Points of View" program, critic RM Campbell wrote a scathing criticism of the recent decision to name Francia Russell and Kent Stowell founding artistic directors of PNB: I agree with Campbell's assessment: it's a bit ridiculous to have a major 25th Anniversary Celebration in 1999, including a history of PNB, if the Company was founded in the late 1970's. I think two of the reasons this could happen is because an entire generation has passed since Reed's and Hayden's tenure, and the population migration into the Seattle metro area. More opinions?

  19. 45 episodes of Sports Night on six disks, currently available on amazon.com for ~$48 new. (That little search box on the toolbar is going to make a pauper out of me )
  20. I must see Sports Night -- I missed it. Local Hero is one of my all-time favorite movies, mostly because of his performance. One of my favorite moments is when he's dancing with Stella at the ceildh, and he gives a self-conscious little look when he's dipping her. His character can never just be in the moment. One of the nice things about Crossing Delancey was that he addresses the implausibility of his character directly. I agree that Amy Irving's character didn't deserve him, but she's whom he wanted.
