  1. I wish they promoted Calvin Royal to the soloist rank. The guy is so talented!
  2. Thank you FauxPas, for your feedback.
  3. Have anyone attended Boylston-Simking SL? I would love to hear your opinion. Thanks!
  4. Given your time limitations I would go with Semionova / Hallberg. Although it is her debut in ABT's "Giselle", she had danced this part before. The most memorable performance took place in Russia opposite Gomes. Both received raving reviews from the Russian press, and were very well received by the audience. Hallberg's Albert does not need comments.....
  5. Somehow I do not feel that Hee Seo can pull it off. She does not strike me as a strong dramatic actor. Manon is a multi-dimensional part that requires a really versatile performer who is able to communicate character' development throughout the ballet. I think Part would make a great Manon if she were partnered with Gomes. He always brings best in her. If anyone is seeing Semionova tonight, I would love to hear your opinion.
  6. I have also thought that Tereshkina / Schklyarov pairing was more thrilling (of course, they dance together in Mariinsky which helps). On Wednesday night I was struck by the lack of inner connection between Smirnova and Muntagirov. Neither of them conveyed any drama. It was a surprizingly complacent performance of two accomplished dancers. Boylston was engaging Gamzatti, although her tecnique leaves much to be desired. Z. Zhang on Thursday was very good as a Bronze (Golden?) Idol.
  7. Again would agree with "mimsyb". Dancers tell a story - regardless of their placement within the company (guest artist vs. permanent member of the company). Drama was missing (for me) in yesterday's performance despite of all the technical abilities of two - undoubtedly - talented artists. I am also going back tonight for Tereshkina/Shklyarov/Boylston. Will be interesting to compare two pairs of guest artists to see whether there is an issue of "guesting", or individual performers' abilities.
  8. I would second mimsyb's opinion about lack of connection between Smirnova and Muntagirov in yesterday's performance. They were rather detached and did not convey the passion of their love story. Both demonstrated clean, sold technique but no real spark. Surprisingly, Hee Seo - not the strongest dancer! - was able to convey her Gamzatti's feelings better than Smirnova, with all her undeniable prowess. P. S. Vishneva and Semionova are Nikyas for ages.....
