Lincoln Center’s President Quits After One Year

Recommended Posts

Well, that was quick.

The board will begin a formal search to replace Debora Spar in the coming weeks.

Perhaps her replacement will re-institute Lincoln Center Festival.

Considering that they're on the way to posting the first loss in several years, I have a feeling that budgets are going to tighten further.

The audience does not care which "who decides what we see"  runs a Mostly Mozart, Lincoln Center Festival, or  books a venue, the bottom line is what is performed at Lincoln Center.  Summer 2017 included Jewels [NYCB/Bolshoi/POB] plus the Bolshoi Taming of the Shrew.    Lucinda Childs and Mark Morris are replacement products for audiences in summer 2018.   Total programming is 5 instead of 7 weeks.  30 years ago in summer of 1988 this was at Lincoln Center:  https://www.nytimes.com/1988/09/01/arts/kirov-to-dance-in-new-york-after-25-years.html?pagewanted=all   Woetzel at Juilliard [a Lincoln Center institution] does something sensible with Alicia Graf  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0zm9jhsjIc

Geffen pledged 100 million to be released in stages for the renovation of the now Geffen Hall.  Was the first stage 15m for the name buyout?   https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/03/arts/music/lincoln-center-geffen-hall.html?action=click&contentCollection=Arts&module=RelatedCoverage®ion=EndOfArticle&pgtype=article  Lincoln Center is part of NYC's Cultural Institutions Group, a subset of  Cultural Affairs.  NYC [Mayor De Blasio] is not committing significant  new funds for established world class institutions in Manhattan.

Everything occurring on the LC  "campus" should be listed.   Segerstrom and Kennedy Center master calendars update to include all events on site. http://www.lincolncenter.org/calendar/?genres[]=554b6eceaeeffbc679642821&dates[]=2018-05-16T04%3A00%3A00.000Z&dates[]=2018-07-28T04%3A00%3A00.000Z&dates[]=2018-08-28T04%3A00%3A00.000Z NYCB at Koch is listed but May 16 is a dark Met Opera House?  No it's  ABT.
