scan of a publicity photo evidently supplied to news organizations outside the USSR by Soviet sources to note the 185th anniversary of Moscow's Bolshoi Theater.

good to see the image was a ballet one, evidently selected from out of 700 potential individual possibilities, if the caption is to be taken at face value.

the photo was previously unfamiliar to me.

Maximova was an exquisite dancer! I will never forget seeing her dance Giselle when she was in her prime. When Giselle does those grand jetes on the diagonal from upstage to downstage it seemed that she never touched the floor.

I suspect the 700 artists include the technical and crafts people behind the scenes. Beautiful photo. I love Maximova's wistful mien.
