Giselle05
Suki's birth name was indeed Suzanne, she changed it upon coming to NYCB because of the presence of two other Suzanne/Susan (Farrell and Pilarre) :-) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> She must have been prescient, because she joined NYCB in 1959, the year Diana Adams tapped Suzanne Farrell for SAB, and Susan Pilarre was still performing children's roles in The Nutcracker through the early 60's. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ahh  ...Just making sure you were paying attention! tigger
I thought she went by Suki before joining NYCB? At least, Joan Brady always calles her Suki in her autobiography and doesn't say anything about the name change. There's an interesting perspective of Ms Schorer in the Unmaking of a Dancer. The two went to school together in San Francisco, both ballet and academic, and eventually ended up in New York together. Link to comment
carbro
Julie Burstein (guest host) interviewed Ms. Schorer on WNYC's Dec. 16 Leonard Lopate Show. To hear it, scroll down to "Best Foot Forward." http://wnyc.org/shows/lopate/episodes/12162005 Link to comment
