A review of the Royal Ballet in "Manon" by Jenny Gilbert for The Arts Desk.

Quote

Francesca Hayward, leading the opening night cast, brings remarkable depth to the role, having added new detail to the character she presented on the ballet’s last revival in 2018. Some dancers play Manon as an innocent abroad as she steps from the carriage that was meant to have conveyed her to a convent. Hayward (pictured above, and main picture with Marcelino Sambé) plays her from the start as a knowing minx, full of gleeful lust for life and action. After politely fending off the advances of a ghastly old gent at the inn, she has no qualms about lifting his wallet. It’s only her due for having enlivened his day.

A review of Ballett Zürich by Maggie Foyer for Bachtrack.

Watching Les Noces, Bronislava Nijinska’s totally original voice still resonates with crystal clarity a century after the ballet was conceived. We are left wondering what else she might have created had circumstances been different but thankfully we are left with this wonderfully preserved ballet, here staged by Christopher Saunders from the Royal Ballet. The resources of Zürich Opera House came to the fore to do justice to Stravinsky’s masterpiece providing a quartet of magnificent solo voices, a chorus, the pianos, now increased to four, plus percussion.

Q&A with Robert Carter of Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo.

Quote

You mentioned Tokyo as a city that was one of your favorites. You have a big fan base there. What is it about Japanese culture, you think, that they love the Trockaderos?

Oh, my goodness, so many things. We are different, for sure. But the Japanese people have such a profound appreciation for artists and when they find something unique that they like, they truly support it 100%. I mean, we have a fan club. Especially after being in the company for so many years, I have a lot of fans. It's just so funny. They buy a block of tickets, so when the curtain opens at a different theater, and it's almost as if they have assigned seating. You know where they're all sitting.
