dirac
A review of Jennifer Homans' new biography of George Balanchine by Dwight Garner in The New York Times. Quote In “Mr. B,” a sensitive, stately and often thrilling new biography of the Russian-born choreographer George Balanchine, Jennifer Homans finds a bittersweet tone to capture Balanchine’s many leave-takings — the way he was chased, as if he were Chaplin’s Tramp, across the first half of the 20th century. dirac
A review of the United Ukrainian Ballet by Sarah Navin for Bachtrack. Quote Ekaterina Chebykina, cast as Odette and Odile, was a vision, with the most beautiful arms I have ever seen on a ballerina. They were mesmerising to watch, graceful yet winglike, at one point gently rippling like water as she left the stage. Her characterisation as Odile was excellent, seductive and playful, with a sly grin. Her daring backbends and 28 fouettés showcased her technical brilliance. Link to comment
dirac
Ivan Putrov brings "Men in Motion" back to London. Quote The program will include 20 pieces of ballet works, featuring the classics and revised versions, as well as new contemporary creations. The works range from “Le Train Bleu,” a one-act ballet choreographed by Bronislava Nijinska in 1924 that Coco Chanel provided the costumes for, to a new piece by award-winning choreographer Arthur Pita, performed by his longtime collaborator Edward Watson, now a répétiteur at The Royal Ballet.
