Newly promoted principal Jonathan Batista, who supported Generosa throughout the piece and soared through the air with some big, perfectly timed jumps, also turned in an impressive performance. The pair's turns in Swan Lake last season dramatically raised both of their profiles around town, and I hope PNB gives us more from them in the future.

The performance is part of the organization’s plans to expand its footprint to Fayetteville, as well as to other areas of the state of Arkansas.

“Dracula renews our commitment to having an annual presence in the area, and creates a touring model we hope to replicate in other parts of the state in future years,” said Catherine Fothergill, Ballet Arkansas’s Associate Artistic Director in a press release about the show. “Every Arkansan deserves access to uplifting, enriching, and engaging programming from Ballet Arkansas.”

A review of Miami City Ballet in "Jewels" by Janice Berman for San Francisco Classical Voice.

As the charmed couple, grinning from ear to ear, Lauren and Peters interact with complexity, separate with alacrity, and seem to be having an amazing time of it. Peters, his red hair a gloriously blazing topper to his costume, never flagged. If you run forward, soon you’ll run backward; if you run backward, soon you’ll be vaulting skyward, or perhaps accelerating through a series of chaine turns, faster and faster into the wings. Lauren’s demanding pointe work and manèges of spins came through without a hitch; she had the added task of being drawn to her partner and yet drawing back from him. She seems to be sure of what she’s doing, but she’s pulling back, keeping him on his toes — as if he weren’t already. All of this would be useless without the corps’ unflinching energy, precision, and high spirits. Like Igor Stravinsky’s music here, Rubies sang.

The Royal Czech Ballet brings its "Swan Lake" to Australia.

Quote

Founded in 2008 by Andrey Scharaev, the core of the Royal Czech Ballet are dancers born and trained in Moldova but augmented by guest soloists from around the world. The company boasts a repertoire which includes in addition to Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote and Giselle, but for its first Australian tour the company is presenting only its production of Swan Lake starring Moldova born ballerina, Cristina Terentiev, dancing the dual roles of Odette/Odile.

A surprisingly lavish production given its extensive touring program, with choreography based on the familiar 1895 Petipa/ Ivanov revival choreography for the Imperial Ballet in the Marinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.

The prince even charmed Queen Victoria, who invested him with the Order of the Garter, and he reportedly became friends with Edward, Prince of Wales.

Three months before his death, 30-year-old Rudolf met the young, 17-year-old Baroness Mary Vetsera for the first time - a meeting which was 'carefully arranged by the Baroness'.

Q&A with Mikko Nissinen about Boston living.

Quote

Is there a “hidden gem” that you always take friends or family visiting from out of town

If we are sticking to Boston, I love walking around Castle Island. But for a day trip, Gloucester is one of my favorite places to bringing guests. Also, so walkable, with another amazing food scene, this fishing village turned city is a local gem.
