Artistic Director Steven Wistrich was coached by “Mr. B” in the 1970s, and the company is one of a few around the country given permission by The George Balanchine Trust to present the master’s works. Former New York City Ballet dancer Zippora Karz stages the Balanchine ballet on City Ballet’s company members to ensure the work is performed the way it is performed at New York City Ballet. Quote She progressed through the syllabus training of both the British Ballet Organisation (BBO) and the Royal Academy of Dancing (RAD). In early 1946, at age 17, she left for London at the invitation of the Sadler’s Wells Ballet School. Within three months she was asked to join the company, then called the Sadler’s Wells Ballet (christened the Royal Ballet in 1958). The soloists in the company at this time included Margot Fonteyn, Robert Helpmann, and Moira Shearer. Link to comment

Quote Harrison Ball, Jovani Furlan and Peter Walker were elevated from soloists to principal dancers, the company said in a news release. The promotions come as the company concludes its winter season, which was delayed because of disruptions caused by the spread of the Omicron variant, but then proceeded uninterrupted. Link to comment

Related. Quote The Royal Opera House have cancelled a tour from Russia's Bolshoi Ballet following the crisis in Ukraine. Related. Quote The Russian State Ballet of Siberia is no longer scheduled to perform three dates at the Edinburgh Playhouse next week, following the invasion of Ukraine. Related. Quote However, if an evening of unadulterated fun is what you’re after – and heaven knows, aren’t we all? – then this is the show for you. Not that it is Acosta’s first Don Q for a British troupe: in 2013 – with the same designer, Tim Hatley – he made one for the Royal Ballet.
