dirac
A review of American Ballet Theatre by Marina Harss for DanceTabs. Quote Some of the most exciting dancing of the evening came from Devon Teuscher, in the role of the queen of the spirits, or Myrta. Teuscher emerged from the wings with a string of tiny, smooth steps (bourrées) on pointe that made her appear to be gliding on a cushion of air. Her side-to-side tilts were excitingly off-balance, her jumps strong and sleek. I understand why she hasn’t been cast as Giselle this week – she’s not the classic waif-like dancer – but boy, would it be exciting to see her try. Link to comment
dirac
A review of Maria Kowroski's farewell performance by Leigh Witchel for dancelog.nyc. Quote Still, they looked good together. Hyltin was less of an opposite and more of a match. They had a similar approach to the role, aimed more outwards than inwards, even as they heaved and collapsed together as they traveled backwards. Garcia pointed up how he impelled and directed her motion in the slow section; his dreams were the dreams of a creator. You could see the ballet more clearly; not just the steps but how Robbins built it. Link to comment
