The Sarasota Ballet gets a $1 million pledge.

The company said Goldstein’s gift will support the company overall as it continues to grow. It also will provide support for the training of young dancers through the Margaret Barbieri Conservatory for pre-professional classical dancers and the high school drop-out prevention program, Dance – The Next Generation.

An interview with dancer Angela Watson.

Watson, 18, has participated in national tours. She has trained on scholarship in San Francisco, New York and Paris, and performed in front of former Governor Jerry Brown. She has danced the principal role of Clara in San Francisco Ballet’s “Nutcracker.” And along the way, she has risen above the considerable challenges of being a Black ballerina in a mostly white world.

The James Sewell Ballet performs this month.

When the group performed on the WMPAC stage last year, the pandemic was still on the distant horizon. This year presents a new challenge, in that ballet is a physical art that usually relies on touch and partnership. James Sewell has worked with each of his dancers to choreograph solo pieces for this performance, which audiences can watch either in person on the WMPAC stage or virtually from home.

Pennsylvania Ballet presents a digital season.

Pennsylvania Ballet has announced the launch of its digital spring season, titled “Strength. Resilience. Beauty,” featuring newly filmed productions of classic ballets, world premieres, and principal solo performances. The season will pay tribute to the late Barbara Weisberger (1926-2020), who founded Pennsylvania Ballet.
