Quote Authentic is another way of saying dated, although this slice of Soviet history associated so well with topical events that one of the dancers was identified to me as the second “#MeToo girl”! Budapest has not seen a classical ballet premiere for three years and it was clear from the audience reaction that Messerer’s staging had reawakened something essential (perhaps because the Chabukiani original was also part of the Hungarian repertoire in the soviet era).
