Helene
Choreographer Pat Graney has won the 2017 Crosscut Courage Award in Arts & Culture for her 25-year-old Faith/The Prison Project: Quote an arts-based residency designed for incarcerated women. The program includes dance, writing, visual arts and sign language—and culminates with a performance. Over the course of the residency, Graney says participants are transformed. “There’s something very powerful about being able to witness another person’s choice to be open rather than closed, another person’s choice to write about difficult things and to be able to share that in front of an audience,” she says. http://crosscut.com/2017/08/meet-the-winners-of-the-2017-crosscut-courage-awards/ Link to comment
sandik
This is a great program -- I'm glad that she's getting the recognition for it. It's been fascinating watching her development as an artist -- the prison project is a part of that, but not the whole of it. Link to comment
