"The Altitude of Dance" - Vail Festival Documentary

A 30-minute documentary on the Vail Dance Festival in 2011 and 2012 will be shown this Thursday, May 9, at 8:30 MDT on all Colorado public television stations. I don't know if they plan to distribute this nationwide or post it on their web site after showing, but I'll post additional information if they do. Here's the e-mail message announcement that I just got:

The beauty and grace of the 2011 and 2012 Vail International Dance Festivals will be on full display Thursday, May 9, as a new documentary film, entitled “The Altitude of Dance”, will premiere on all Rocky Mountain PBS affiliate stations throughout the state of Colorado at 8:30pm (MST).

Two years in the making, the 26-minute film by Nel Shelby Productions chronicles the breathtaking and unique dance festival that celebrates its 25th anniversary this coming summer, July 28 through August 10.

Set against the beauty of the Rocky Mountains, “The Altitude of Dance” follows world-renowned dancers and choreographers that flock to Vail, creating lasting friendships that continue to celebrate the world of dance. The music used throughout the documentary is Brooklyn Rider's Philip Glass String Quartet #3, "Mishima."

"This film by Nel Shelby captures the spirit of the Vail International Dance Festival," said festival director Damian Woetzel. "In addition to documenting the marvelous dancers that grace our stages each year, ‘The Altitude of Dance’ gives a glimpse behind the curtain to a world that audiences very rarely see."

On a humorous note, when I searched for this on my DirectTV Guide, I discovered that they have it listed as "The Attitude of Dance."

They do post a lot of video, so it will be worth checking back after the broadcast. Damien Woetzel, of course, has directed the Festival in recent years, so with luck it will include an interview:
