atm711
I would like opinions on the picture quality of this DVD. Some time ago I transferred my tape to DVD, but the quality of the picture is rather anemic. Is this DVD any better? Link to comment
Marcmomus
The Kultur DVD of Creole Giselle is not too bad. Some scenes are a touch pale, probably because the stage was over-lit (shown by sharp shadows). There also the odd halo. I have many DVDs that are much worse. Link to comment
PeggyR
To my (very inexpert) eye it's OK, assuming you're watching on an HD tv. The colors in Act I look very washed out. I had to turn the brightness level down (and I mean waaaaaaay down) to get the colors and lighting to look natural. It looks reasonably sharp, although there are a couple of slightly out of focus moments, which seems to be typical with older material. The biggest issue for me is a fair amount of movement blurring, especially in the first act, although that may be my LCD TV which, however, is less than a year old and which advertises that movement blur is virtually eliminated (and advertising never lies, does it), so it's hard to say if the blurring is from the DVD or the TV. All in all, despite my kvetching, once the brightness is adjusted, it looks pretty good considering its age. Link to comment
