carbro
Brochures are available in the State Theater lobby. No more pictures of beautiful women modeling costumes in alien settings. No, all the photos are of dancers dancing. A welcome change, in my opinion. The cover features Darci Kistler with one male hand in a pose from (I think) Barber Violin Cto. Link to comment
oberon
Yes, these are the kind of pictures I like. Dancers dancing. Link to comment
drb
NYCB's website is worth a visit for its illustrated feature on this Spring's Diamond project. Clive Barnes graces us with his memory, in particular this 1971 encounter with Mr. Balanchine: "One night a few days after the premiere [of PAMTGG] I was crossing Lincoln Center Plaza and, horror of horrors, bumped, almost literally, into Mr. B. Some kind of confrontation seemed inevitable. It was an open secret that Balanchine at this juncture was going through a serious personal crisis. I waited meekly for some kind of harangue, or perhaps just a studied cut. Instead Mr. B. smiled beatifically, tightened his grasp round the gorgeous redhead called Linda he was escorting, nodded slightly towards her and said, "It's always nice to have something new—even in ballet, whatever." I wanted to kiss both him and Linda, but just grinned, replied, "Sure," and passed on a wiser man." Click on Diamond Project Icon at http://www.nycballet.com/nycballet/homepage.asp Link to comment
carbro
I just opened my mailbox to find the Single-Ticket brochure for Spring. Abi Stafford looks dramatic and lovely on the front cover in a pose from a Martins ballet (unidentified and could be from any of several), and the back shows Jennifer Tinsley held by Jason Fowler in the Third Theme of The Four Temperatments. Both are against black backgrounds. This brochure has a lean, sinewy feel. I like it. Link to comment
oberon
I think that's Abi in FEARFUL SYMMETRIES; and Ringer looks gorgeous in SYMPHONY IN C on the roster page. (Nilas looks pretty nice, too). Kowroski asleep as Titania makes me anxious to see her back onstage, but I hoped the shot of her in Central Park would be included in the brochure. Obviously this was printed before that last wave of promotions! Edited March 14, 2006 by oberon Link to comment
carbro
The brochures always lag behind the personnel changes. Link to comment
drb
NYCB is offering rehearsal photo sets for each of the new Diamond Project ballets. So far there are four of Feld, working with Gilliland, and four of Elo, working with Sylve & Ramasar. http://www.nycballet.com/diamond/feld.html More will be posted from subsequent rehearsals. oberon
Now you've whetted my appetite; I always try to see all the Diamond Project ballets, and the coming season looks really interesting. The choices of music offer huge variety. Link to comment
drb
Well, the new season is almost upon us. Website casting goes up next week. I hope Mr. Martins is as adventurous in casting Midsummer as he was with last season's Danish Lake. BUT, has anyone received subscription tickets yet? I've heard that they switched to a new printer... Link to comment

I got them in today's mail! For some reason, it seems like a very short break to me this year. (Might have more to do with me than NYCB.) Link to comment
drb
The new Wheeldon Bartok dance, which premieres on May 10, will be a tutu ballet! "The Winger" has costume fitting (April 12) and a Today Show rehearsal shoot (April 14): http://www.phontographer.com/winger/ Link to comment
Alexandra
I'm sorry, drb, I must be going blind. You used the word "tutu" in close connection to the word "ballet" with the implication that it's a "new" ballet. Smelling salts! Link to comment
