Mme. Hermine
Do you remember the story of Arthur Bell, who was the first black man to dance with the New York City Ballet in the early 1950s? He was discovered to be homeless in the late 1990s when a social worker who listened to his stories about dancing and actually believed him for a change went looking for his family, and he was finally reunited with them. While looking for something else I found an article that revealed he had died in early 2004. http://www.sptimes.com/2004/01/31/Columns/...r_has_fam.shtml Link to comment
Mel Johnson
At least it was given to him to find what he was looking for. It is cause to celebrate. May light perpetual shine upon him. Link to comment
drb
It seems from a 1999 Dance Magazine article that his"discovery" was widely publicised. The article gives details of his association with Sir Fred and Pierre Lacotte. http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_..._73/ai_53663447 Respect, Mr. Bell. Link to comment
