Helene
In Leigh Witchel's opening review of Nederlands Dans Theater's Essence of Dance program, there were two striking things: 1. The phrase "full-out flail" that was so invocative 2. The closing line that sums up the litmus test for judging contemporary ballet: It will be interesting to see if his works, and the essence of dance itself, follow the examples here in the direction of movement and form or those in the direction of sensation and effect.
