Leigh Witchel
Boal debuts as Drosselmeier? Wow - that's one I never thought of! Link to comment
AmandaNYC
Now, Boal as Drosselmeier would get me to watch the first act more than once this season! And, Scheller debuts as Dewdrop. I had a feeling she'd get to do solos sooner rather than later based on her performances at the SAB workshops in 2002 and 2003. Link to comment
Dale
A press release regarding Boal's debut: PETER BOAL TO PERFORM ROLE OF HERR DROSSELMEIER AT NEW YORK CITY BALLET Mr. Boal Will Make Debut on Friday, December 17, as Part of 50th Anniversary Season of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker™ New York City Ballet has announced that principal dancer Peter Boal will debut as Herr Drosselmeier in George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker™ on Friday, December 17, at 8 p.m., with an additional performance on Tuesday, December 21, at 6 p.m. Mr. Boal, who joined NYCB in 1983 and has been a principal dancer since 1989, will retire from the Company in June 2005 to take the position of Artistic Director of Pacific Northwest Ballet. His performances as Herr Drosselmeier are part of New York City Ballet’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker™. Mr. Boal’s history with New York City Ballet’s production of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker™ goes back to 1975, when he was a student at the School of American Ballet. That year, Mr. Boal was one of the children in the opening act party scene, and in 1977 and 1978, he was given the role of the Nutcracker Prince. During his more than 20 years with NYCB, Mr. Boal has danced many other roles in the ballet, and he is currently performing the role of the Cavalier at various performances throughout the season. Mr. Boal, who is also on the faculty of the School of American Ballet, was named Artistic Director of Pacific Northwest Ballet in November 2004. He will retire from NYCB and SAB in June and will start his new position the following month. Details of his retirement will be announced at a later date. The role of Herr Drosselmeier in George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker™ was originated by Michael Arshansky on February 2, 1954. The role has been performed by many dancers over the years, and has also been performed by both George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins in the NYCB production. Link to comment
bertrande
No Korbes yet again in any solo role! Has anyone seen her in the corps? I really hope she's not being overlooked this season in favour of the younger dancers. Link to comment
Dale
I saw Korbes as a parent in Act I. Link to comment
