Alexandra
Okay, so this is what happened. I was on the google search page and saw there was something called Froogle! and clicked on it, and got a page of shoes on sale. And one of them was ..... well, go see for yourself. 7" spike -- ballet 30 DO click on "larger view" for full effect. Link to comment

Hans
Apparently they're for people with low arches who have trouble getting over regular pointe shoes.... Link to comment
fendrock
I thought they were pointe shoes for those of us who've never taken a ballet class. Link to comment
Alexandra
Think of the "bloody toes" section of "Concerto Barocco"...... Link to comment

kitrisomeday
you are supposed to dance in those? Link to comment
Alexandra
No, no. They're street shoes for the ultra cool. As I said in the first post, I merely clicked on the Froogle link at www.google.com (it's a new Google service) and there they were..... Link to comment
Ed Waffle
I know I shouldn't admit knowing such things, but shoes like that are old stand-bys among some bondage types. They are not meant for either dancing or walking--or even to be worn in public. The "Pleaser 2004" link goes to their catalog, from which these are taken. The "Ballet" is just the name of a line. Strippers were the main customer base for Pleaser and may still be. They feature platform stilettoes that are made from transparent acrylic and others that glow under black light. It is amazing what is one click away! Link to comment
Alexandra
I think that was what Mel was gently hinting at, Ed I was quite taken by the "Revenge" number..... I still see a full-treatment Broadway production..... One of the first links I stumbled on in a general search for "ballet" was a site that specialized in ..... odd shoes with the words "ballet" in the title. But they weren't pointe shoes!!!! I do wonder if Froogle realizes what's on its front page. Edited May 7, 2004 by Alexandra Link to comment
Clara 76
Oh dear! I certainly hope they don't make those shoes in small sizes or else some stage mother will be the next in line for a pair for their "unnaturally talented offspring" whose ballet teacher won't put her on "toe"!!!!!!!! Alexandra
Good point, Clara -- now, if you're really feeling evil, you could get a pair of these for the end of the year prize for that very special 'unnaturally talented offspring" Wear these every day during the summer dear..... Link to comment

Pamela Moberg
When I lived in London there was a shoe shop in Wardour Street selling this type of footwear. I have always understood what clientele that shop had - nothing mysterious at all - Ed got it right! Link to comment
