Ed Waffle
According to the "People are Talking about" section of Vogue she has a "life that reads like a fairy tale", including being discovered at age nine by a talent scout for the then Kirov at a gymnastics camp in the countryside. It does sound as if she has the world (at least the ballet world) by the tail, being promoted to principal dancer of the Royal Ballet by Anthony Dowell while taking curtain calls for Giselle. In a not untypical Vogueism, she is lauded because she always "treated company classes like a performance instead of a warm-up". This probably means more to the author, Kevin Conley than it does to me. Link to comment
sylvia
Thanks so much for posting this. Which issue of Vogue is this? Re the quote, she said the same thing to a British newspaper (forget which) a couple years ago. Link to comment
Dale
It's the May issue of American Vogue. I was just happy they had ballet in the issue - that makes two in a row. Twenty-25 years ago (probably longer), two beautiful international soloist guesting with ABT in New York would bring about spreads and interviews in many glossy magazines. Link to comment
