BW
Is Christopher Stowell (Oregon Ballet) related to Kent Stowell of Pacific North West Ballet, or do they just share the same last name? Link to comment
Victoria Leigh
I believe Christopher is the son of Kent Stowell and Francia Russell of PNB Link to comment
BW
Thank you Victoria. I think it's quite interesting to see the family tree side of ballet... Stanton Welch's mother was, I think, the ballet mistress at the Australian Ballet, wasn't she? Am I correct and are there others? Link to comment
Mary Lynn Slayden
Stanton Welch is the son of two former principals of the Australian Ballet, Marilyn Jones and Garth Welch. Stanton's brother Damien dances for the Australian Ballet. Both Marilyn Jones and Garth Welch also danced in Europe in the 1960's. Link to comment
BW
Mary Lynn Slayden, many thanks for the specifics. Link to comment
Nanatchka
Did anyone else see this topic and think of Balanchine's remark, "There are no mothers-in-law in ballet?" But of course he meant in the plots. I bet there is one someplace real life....Can anyone think of a dancer mother-in-law? A peculiar variant of the stage mother.... Link to comment
glebb
This may be "stretching" it, but Romana Kryzanowsky, Paul Mejia's mother, was Suzanne Farrell's mother in law for a while. I saw her many times giving private Pilates sessions to Ms. Farrell at the Pilates studio on 56th between 5th and 6th, back in the 80s. Link to comment
BW
glebb, thanks for the "mother-in-law" connection - and I think it meets the test quite nicely! Link to comment
