I saw Friday night's performance. Thought Herman Cornejo and Malakhov, for the men, were standouts - Cornejo in particular, because I'd never seen him dance before. I wish Malakhov's Rothbart had more dancing; he was quite wonderful. Kent was lovely throughout. I do agree that her White Swan was more impressive than her Black. She seemed quite tired in the fouettes- they lacked "oomph".

I saw Reyes in "Onegin" last night. I'd never heard of her before. She was delightful, danced joyfully, and expressively. I sat pretty far away and she was able to convey the emotions of her role, Olga, to me. She has a light, coquettish style. [ 06-03-2001: Message edited by: vagansmom ]

I loved your comment, Leigh, about program notes and writing an essay rather than a ballet! I don't mind a line or two, as cause for heightened understanding, in the program notes. But the ballet simply must stand on its own, without the program notes whether it has a lofty purpose or not. It has to be pleasing in some fashion to me, and interestingly stated. If it can't be that without the use of progam notes, then I find it's pretentious.
