  1. Lopatkina and Vishineva did dance Nikiya on Mariinsky Ballet's Japan tour in November 2012. They had 4 performances of Bayadere, and the others danced the role was Skorik (her role debut) and Kondaurova. (first, Somova and Tereshkina were announced but they went on maternity leave as mentioned above)

Well, Lopatkina and Vishneva might have danced the role because they were on tour.

  2. Tikho(mirova) seems like a Bolshoi ballerina with similar qualities as Osipova.

I know both very well and I have hard time seeing similarities (by the way, is it really necessaryto create "nick-abbreviations" like "Tickho"? ballerinas are not rappers or DJ's).

I was very irritated by some posters who called Tikhomirova "Tikho". It seemed kind of lack of respect to a wonderful ballerina. And also I agree to Mathilde mentioning there are not much similarities between Tikhomirova and Osipova.

  3. I have no doubt that Smirnova has wonderful talent and would be a great ballerina, but each time I see her (for instance,at YAGP gala and live relay of Marco Spada) I think sometimes her en dehors is not efficient, sometimes her pivot feet tacked in. Besides that, I find no flaw with her.

  4. There is a DVD available for Petit's Proust, Intermittence Le Coeur, performed by Paris Opera Ballet. It is a beautiful work and I

like this work very much, but a very French work and I doubt ABT's audience will like it. There is some nudity in this work. The male duet is frequently performed at galas, and Marcelo Gomes, David Hallberg has performed that part in galas.

MacMillan's Invitation is a powerful piece (I also have seen it in full) but this ballet has a violent rape scene of an adolescent girl and I doubt it will be acceptable for the ABT audience too.

  5. Looking at those curtain call videos and photos, I feel it is very strange that ballerinas in the role of Manon take off their short wings and appear in long hair. Why do they do this? I think it is beautiful that the ballerina is lost in their roles and still feeling their passion of the performance during curtain call.

  6. I also have seen Denis Nedak several times in National Ballet of Ukraine performances, in such roles as Basilio and Solor. This troupe tours regularly in Japan, like once or twice a year. He is not a flashy dancer but is tall and has stellar classical technique and is a good partner, quite noble. But not with a super-star potential.

  7. Messmer is listed for the same role in Symphony 9 tha tshe had at ABT. She was never in Chamber Symphony at ABT.

The trilogy was only perfomed 4 times at ABT during the Spring 2013 season. ABT then gave a few performances of Piano Concerto 1 in the Fall of 2013 at the Koch Theater as part of mixed rep programs (without the rest of the trilogy). I wonder if ABT will ever bring back the trilogy, or any portion of it.

ABT did perform the Piano Concerto in their Japan tour in February, so there might be some chance of reviving it.

  8. Thank you for your detailed report sasark. Very informative!

I heard there had been many injuries in the company, resulting in many last minute cast changes. Olga Esina was too tall to partner Denys Cherevychko so they had to change the Aurora ballerina that time. It has been Nina's role debut and Denys was only the third cast so I am relieved he did well. Also nice to hear that Kiyoka Hashimoto was wonderful as Florine.
