  1. SEE IT!

I saw it Friday night with the second cast - Yatsenko, (someone replacing Klevtsov as Pyotr and I don't know who and there was no announcement or cast sheet!), Shipulina, Skvortsov. I was upset not to see Lunkina and Alexandrova, but I just couldn't make it on Thursday.

Some might think this as OTT, but I've never enjoyed the Bolshoi so much. Even though I've seen them in Pharaoh's Daughter, despite the plot, I've always felt that when I saw the Bolshoi I was seeing 'serious' ballet, if that makes sense.

This was just as serious technically, beautifully executed... but, I've never seen the Bolshoi, either live or in person, dance so joyfully. (beside Alexandrova in Don Q). It was a true delight. Yeah yeah I have some minor quibbles here and there, some parts work better than others, whatever. A delightful score, delightful dancing, and happiness all around. I've never heard the Covent Garden audience have such a good time!!!! At the end the *very* stately people who could afford to have the seats in front of my standing place were waving back at the dancers, some practically dancing along, lots of giggling and guffawing, but not in the 'be quiet' sort of way.

Hopefully next time we'll get this as a weekend matinee! This is one for all ages I think, and I actually think it would keep both my dad and my brother awake - which is saying A LOT.

*sigh* - I'm still smiling from Friday night....

But is this a classical ballet or modern?

  2. I began to read Dance Europe beacause i saw an interview with Court Dancer Marie Lindqvist, i do buy it when i see something that i think it´s interesting.

I think it´s a good magazine if you want to look at reviews, now i made a subscription on Pointe magazine and can´t wait for it to arrive on my doorstep :)

  3. Hi, I just want to let you know that principal dancer and Sebastian Michanek have their own websites!

    enjoy:)

  4. No fair, Rosie! Tell us some of your favorite highlights, please!

Ok, My favorite highligths were when he showed us were the Queen and her family sists it was great the she sits in a balcony and she has a little room were they can rest or just relax the room was perfumed with some kind of roses. I couldn´t understand the guider to 100% because I don´t understand danish tah well, he told us that the queen has a (to me it looked like a place where she smokes it looked like a balcony space coverd with glass windows) and one time when she got in she couldn´t get out. So the staff had to call the fire department to get her out of there, he had a newspaper clipping with her when she was looked inside. I´m sure that they must have had a great laugh because of that. :jawdrop:

He showed us the backdrop, the clearing scenery, they fly system, the chours dressing room, the carpentry workshop, the electrical workshop and the wig room. And the computer room were the guestdancers can e-mail and talk to their family.

All this things were incredible to see, If I did understand correct the whole place is 12 miles but we did only see 2 miles of it. I´d love the old scene it was really beautiful as in the photos of it. :)

  5. Hi, Today I was on the behind the scence at the Royal theatre old stage in at the Royal Danish Ballet,

It was very interesting I´d like it very much.

The man who guided us through the buldning showed us loads of stuff i do recomend it to all ballet fans the whole tour did last for 2 hours! :jawdrop:

and it´s diffinitly worth the money :)

  7. Hi I wonder if someone could please help me, I wonder if some could tell me what

Karakterdansere , Solodansere, Korpsdansere and Aspiranter means in english?

    No problem at all.

    Karakterdansere means character dancers.

    Solodansere means soloists,

    Korpsdansere means corps de ballet,

    Aspiranter means apprentices.

Thanks Pamela, Do you know what things a character dancer does dance

    in a ballet?

  8. Yes Darcey Bussell despite all her engagements seems to find the time to sign a postcard if you forward to the Royal Ballet. In fact they are a lovely bunch of peeps at Covent Garden. They even went to the trouble of getting Maya to sign my copy of her book - bless them.

In these days of what seems to be generally declining moral standards, the ballet continues to be a bastion of good old fashioned etiquette.

I rather think that when the tide turns and people start to realise that old fashioned values are something we cannot afford to lose in society, then a whole new audience for ballet will materialise. :thanks:

Where do YOU send the letters? :) To the ballet company? :)

    :beg: please let me know

  9. The Bolshoi Ballet will come to Copenhagen with six performances on September 5-10 2006. On the programme at the new Opera House are Grigorovich's Swan Lake and Ratmansky's The Bright Stream.

There is also a follow-up tour planned on October 5-11 to Jylland cities Randers, Holstebro, Aalborg, Vejle and Aarhus.

Finally :clapping::thanks: so much for the info Jorgen, now i have something to look forward to :yahoo:

  10. As far as I know, the only ballet performed in the new Opera house's big stage is Neumeier's "The little Mermaid". I suppose because it is a new production which is made for a bigger stage. Otherwise, it has been operas on that stage.

Just keep your eyes and ears open  :)

I have bougth tickets for the old stage :) i can´t wait too see it

do you know if they always show the backstage of the new opera house or just for a season? Please let me know :D

  11. Richard, I was puzzled in Act 1 when the Queen arrived and the Prince and his friends made a big thing of hiding their alcoholic drinks from her.  I am presently reading 'The Life and Ballets of Lev Ivanov' by Roland John Wiley and in writing of the first St. Petersburg performance he says:  "There is much carousing at Prince Siegfried's coming-of-age celebration when the Prince's mother arrives to tell her son he must choose a wife...."--I guess Wright got it right.  I love the book and thought I might like to own it---until I looked up the price on Amazon---$114.00.

I have also seen the Royal Swedish Ballet's Peter Wright production of 'Swan Lake and i didn´t like it :yahoo:

I think if they had done the scenes more colorful and did change Andres Nordström it would have been better. I think that they don´t focus on the scenes that much as the Royal Danish Ballet does it´s sad because i think a ballet depends a lot what the sceneografi looks like but also on the dancers.

  12. I've been to MANY Nutcrackers in my life, but the one that stands out in my mind (besides the ones my son and daughter have appeared in) as the most "magical", beautiful and one that I wanted to never end was The Royal Danish Ballet!  It has been 2 years, so  cant give a decent review, but please,  If you EVER have a chance, do yourself a favor, get your self over to Tivoli Gardens, tour the Christmas village and see this Nutcracker!

By the way,  The Queen must have been there with her grandsons not her "nephews".Prince  Joachim has 2 young boys,  Nicolai and Felix, these would be her grandsons (And she has a brand new crown prince grand son thanks to Prince Fredrick and Mary)

    ¨

I just want to say that i´m sorry for my misstake i know i should have written grandsons but by misstake i wrote nephews I´m very ashamed of that:blush:

i wrote the message to quick and didn´t noticed the word which i should :(

By the way do you know if the The Royal Danish Ballet puts up the Nutcracker every year or just once in a while?

Please :beg: let me know i wish they do because them i could see it every year :yahoo:
