  1. I wish I could be a source for reviews -- but don't think I'll be seeing many of their performances from Texas!! So I'm relying on everyone else to keep me informed! I can understand companies being afraid to distribute videos of their performances within their own city. Especially something like Nutcracker -- it could tempt people to stay home and watch the television rather than venturing out to the theater. But you're right -- it sure would make a good gift to the donors!
  2. Anyone have thoughts on why some companies choose to film and distribute some of their performances, and other companies do not? Is it purely a financial decision? I've never run across a video of Pennsylvania Ballet for sale.
  3. Well, my info on adult classes is surely outdated by now... but as of 1999 (last year I was there), I recall evening open adult classes twice a week in the smaller of the two 5th floor studios.
  4. You said it, socalgal! Hope my last post didn't count as gossip!
  5. Thanks for the info! I check all the company websites with ridiculous frequency about this time of year -- waiting to see which friends are where. It's always fun to find out! Did anyone retire this past spring?
  6. I try to keep up with Pennsylvania Ballet, even from down here in the south. Does anyone know of dancers who are leaving the company, or new ones coming in? How about promotions for the new season? I know that Francis Veyette is going to Kansas City Ballet, and I'd heard that Sarah Edery is going to Boston Ballet. Anyone know anything else?
  7. All I can say on the subject is that even several years ago (about seven now) when I was a full-scholarship student at the Rock, and dancing in nearly every series the company did, there was a huge amount of tension between the two entities. Even back then there was quite a bit of talk that the company would be selling the building to the school, and then moving out. Don't know what started the tension, but I know it got loads worse the minute that the school fired Gloria Govrin. (I was in the wings ready to go on for Giselle that night, and all of us that were students were so shocked we must have performed horribly!) All I can guess is that, like any relationship that goes sour, the school and the company now have different priorities.
