The Young Dancers performances allow the upcoming generation to shine on stage in extracts from both classical works and today's repertoire. SF Ballet is pleased to present a world premiere work by Helgi Tomasson. Since assuming leadership of the Company in 1985, Tomasson has choreographed over 40 ballets, ranging from lavish full-length story ballets to intimate neoclassical works that showcase the unique qualities of his individual dancers. The program continues with the 20th anniversary presentation of Maelstrom, the first work created for SF Ballet by Mark Morris. Upon its premiere, the San Francisco Bay Guardian called Maelstrom “a jewel that goes right to the core of classical European dance.” The program concludes with Yuri Possokhov’s The Rite of Spring, a gripping interpretation of Stravinsky’s masterwork, which made its premiere during the 2013 season.
