Funny that Nadon is the only cast for Tzigane.  Usually they have two casts ready to go....

Suzanne Farrell programmed Tzigane for her company's last show at the Kennedy Center December 2017, Forever Balanchine.  Two casts and the KC premiere by her company was in 2002.  I'd love to see Peck+Mejia smolder through this.  NYCB did Martins Zakouskie, Tzigane light, in early 2018 at the KC.   6 years later Woodward had her Tch pdd debut.

I hope that the right people were consulted. Obviously words such as drifter, nomad, rambler or vagabond would have been inappropriate. ...

I haven't yet encountered a case of the music being renamed in concert settings.

My program states "The performances of  Meditation and Tzigane are presented by special arrangement with Suzanne Farrell, copyright holder"   I guess discussions on the renaming were between Suzanne Farrell, NYCB, and the Trust.   1975 Ravel Festival also included Rapsodie Espagnol - anyone remember that?

It looks like Isabella LaFreniere and Gilbert Bolden have two performances of Sanguinic in 4T. Wish I could see it.

Great program.  Harris Theatre has excellent advanced sales on the high priced Balanchine-Robbins.  NYCB was last there 18 years ago on the 1st subscription series.   21st Century has significantly lower advanced sales and discount  codes further reduce the lower base prices.

KenCen presents NYCB annually and this season is 7 Jewels.

  4. ABT posted Purple on 1/25.  Benno+2 by instagram when ABT site had 8 LWFC? Tickets were like tracking hurricanes with some shows essentially NA 6 weeks out. 1/30 sold out.

ABT's only tour shows Jan-July are the KC7 + CA5. Major reduction from 2023 and 2022 had DQ on tour.    KC: dynamic pricing is back, the 24/7 online subscriber exchange is not yet active, no specifc  programming for what used to be BAA.

  5. Love the Abraham -at 50.   NOW: PREMIERES | Monday, August 7, 2023 - YouTube Hope to see it performed. Great costumes that don't detract from choreography [costume galas].

"If you run, I might fall (World Premiere) Music by Johann Sebastian Bach Choreography by Kyle Abraham in collaboration with the cast ...Costumes by Kyle Abraham and Marlene Hamm OLIVIA BELL, CHUN WAI CHAN, JEFFREY CIRIO, ADJI CISSOKO, PHILIP DUCLOS, MAYFIELD MYERS, MIRA NADON, KJ TAKAHASHI, STEPHANIE TERASAKI"

Thanks so much for clarification! do you think it would be possible for ABT to retain the footage from the live? have they been able retain WT live footage in the past? it would be a total shame if they couldn’t. Brandt’s giselle is a very coveted one after all

There's a record button and ABT didn't post any 2019 Swan Lake footage during the pandemic.

I would guess it was just a live feed from the stage for in-house viewing. Courtney Lavine's story is captured in one of Skylar's own stories, with the caption, "Wolftrap has the best filming equipment. Felt like we were watching a movie." (And with perhaps Courtney herself saying, "Eat that stage, girlfriend! Wow, wow, wow!")

ETA: I see @maps has confirmed, just as I was posting.

Courtney Lavine was a beautiful Bathilde - several zooms.

does anyone know if the footage skylar posted from the TV was recorded for ABT, or was just shown as live feed from the stage during the show?

The footage posted is from the live feed at Wolf Trap and the audience sees it on jumbo screens on each side of the stage. Plus 2 on the sides of the lawn, and a super jumbo screen in the middle.  Footage posted by Brandt, Gonzalez, Ischuk and perhaps more would have been recorded on phones by colleagues from a lounge flat screen.  Wolf Trap has 5 fixed cameras, planned zooms, etc and can also use handhelds.   I think Brandt posted it "looked like a movie."   The lounges and back stage areas for performers are also lovely- recently renovated.   Extensive HVAC backstage.

First day of operation for the simulcast was for the Washington Ballet Giselle 2018.  ABT R&J was 2017 but it's 2019 Swan Lakes were on the jumbotron.  The performers lounge A Better Backstage - Wolf Trap All Access  has been renovated since 2019.  Depending where you sit, the stage and screen are in your sight line.   We saw 7/27 which was a great show and could be marketed from the recording.  MIssed seeing 7/28 - was going to try to catch act 2 but could not.

  9. Compare to great dance dramas?

    • Prodigal Son-Balanchine 1929. 40 minutes.
    • Anna Karenina- 2019 for Joffrey/Hallberg. 100 plus 1 20 minute intermisson.

Did ABT commit to LWFC before Wheeldon developed the show for the ROH tech specs? What are tech capabilities at the Koch? LWFC would have needed the 4rth ring open. Bourne's Red Shoes -choreography was elevated when Gomes guested and assume the same if Mearns guested in NYC.

I'm thinking about going to see the Cornejo/Brandt cast. Any advice on which seats are best at Wolf Trap? ...

2:06 SL Maypole.   WT has jumbo screen simulcasts using multiple cameras. ABT should shown videos from it's WT SL's during the pandemic.

The stage is about the same square footage as the Met but wide rather than deep.  Hope the Albrechts do brisees or alternate combo [Ratmansky/Cubans].

Thank goodness they are ditching those awful Santo Loquasto costumes.

The invitation of "guest artists" is interesting and unusual.  What other companies perform Who Cares?  Royal Ballet?  Does Paris Opera do this work.

Maybe it's guest vocalists on 10/5 for Who Cares?.

10/11/23 rep matches a 1948 performance.  3 other fall performances:  CB, Prodigal, Symphony in C.   NYCB doesn't appear to recast Balanchine until a dancer retires or is NA [otherwise engaged or injured].  Fall 2023 is a great opportunity for debuts in Balanchine.

Limited Who Cares with new costumes and no SD or Donizetti after the KC marvelous debuts?  Odd that Gustave is on 5 shows spring 2024.

Since we just had the Dream last season,..Camargo did all performances...Give Aran Bell a shot at Oberon.

Yes to Bell, Camargo,Curley in anything.

The Met website is listing J Curley for John Brown; Cory's name does not appear on the Met website anymore for Dr. John Brown.  Is this a minor role? ...

ABT should list Juan casting.  Also Giselle peasant pdd, R&J Tybalt/Paris/Benvolio.  No male soloists on Met casting.

...And about the seating--I guess? They've long closed the balcony off for many productions which I understand, but to open only the orchestra is baffling... really, really great ways to get people to buy tickets SCFTA! Keep it up!

Presenters should get box office stats from the KenCen. Ratmansky's Giselle was popular:

    • SCFTA OR 1145
    • KC 2198. Presented by KC.

I received an email from the WB stating that a 15% discount on tickets is available by using the code FAIRYTALE. The email didn't specify whether the code was only available for online sales, but apparently is good for any seat. It's a bit surprising that they are offering a discount since there aren't a whole lot of tickets left.

    Casting can be found here:

I suppose that I will end up going to at least one performance, but I'm not really in the mood. My long-time accomplice for ballets and symphonies has entered the home stretch of her life. By opening night, she will have been moved to a hospice.

Any input on the Eisenhower box tier high chair seats [only available]?  Very sad to read about your show accomplice.
