  1. Ditto the bravo for Keith Young. He was always wonderful when he danced with the Twyla troup. Too bad he got panned by the critics for his first big choreographic attempt in NYC.
  2. What do you mean by "Upper West Side edginess"? This doesn't compute for me as I don't think of UWS as edgy. When I saw Ms. Ringer at Barnes & Noble for the Pointe Mag. talk, she indicated that waltz pieces were her favorite as she never quite made the transition to the 'fast pace' of SAB & NYCB. I'm glad to hear that Ms. Bouder was magnificent, although I worry about a young dancer debuting on a twice-sprained ankle.
  3. Student Rush tickets are only $10. Sometimes they are orchestra seats, sometimes 4th ring. You can buy them on-line on the web site or the day of the performance. You must have a school ID when you pick up the tickets. According to the web site you must be in high school or college, but my two ballerinas have purchased rush tkts with elememtary and middle school IDs. They are not available for all performances and you will not be able to sit with your mom unless the seat next to you is unsold.
  4. When I spied the Flight Attendant Ballet on the program for ABT Studio Company Thursday night (Kaye Playhouse)--I thought-- oh no PAMTGGing to Mozart. But it was clever and well-crafted, and it did remind one of Jerome Robbins. No lucite suitcases here. The eight dancers are passengers on a long flight. They begin with the men on one knee, the ladies seated on the other knee, tilted backward and along comes the attendant (totally groomed, totally efficient, totally authoritative) who flicks each ballerina on the head to bring them up into take-off position. The passengers alternate between boredom and cutting up. They smoke in the back of the plane, canoodle in the bathroom, always to be reined in by the attendant, whose clipped manner lets them know there is no fun allowed (except when she decides it's time to flirt). Sometimes things got muddled and I didn't get "it", but in the end it was light, airy fun. These young company members were very well rehearsed and that alone made the entire evening a pleasure to watch. Leigh, there were two performances, Wed. & Thurs.   5. ...for the world premiere of "Lost Language of the Flight Attendant"/performed by ABT Studio Company/choreography by Brian Reeder/music by W.A. Mozart. Did anyone else see this last night? Please jump in!! Help out! I have to go to a meeting plus I'm too shy.
  6. Well, Nanatchka & Manhattnik, there have been many a moment at the NY State Theatre that I have enjoyed a ballet with my eyes closed. The only problem is the accompanying 'head snap'. It's always a tad embarrassing but then again the guy behind me in the fourth ring is probably a tourist trying to get some culture or a 'ballet alertist' sympathizer. This past winter little Shesno helped out the conductor with 'Dances at a Gathering' with some petite battements de snores. If I ever accidently bought tickets for Dances and Goldbergs I'd probably have to lay down in front of the water fountain located just outside of standing room. Manhattnik, I don't know why you like the Starbucks at 67th and Columbus--it's really gloomy and I really hate paying $3 for a jigger of coffee with a pound of milk foam. Better a cup of joe or a small chardonnay at Peter's at 68th & Columbus.
