Wondering where Miriam Miller fits into the Jewels casting. I think she could be great in Diamonds, but I'm sure she would also be lovely in Emeralds.
Didn't Miller do Diamonds, or at least the pas, at Saratoga a few years back? I wasn't there, but IIRC, reports were that she was lovely.

If both Nadon and LaFreniere are now in Diamonds, does that mean they won't do the Tall Girl in Rubies? If so, that only leaves Kikta; they will need a new Tall Girl or two.

It seems very odd to limit tickets for a particular performance ONLY to people with a special code. I don't get that at all. Whatever is going on, it seems very disorganized on the part of the box office or whoever is making these decisions!

I went on site to purchase such from the direct link provided and put in the appropriate code but when I brought up the seat map and went to select everything was greyed out.
Something is going on with that date, because when I just went to the NYCB calendar, Sept 30 evening does not appear!! The matinee is there, but the evening performance is not even listed. Whatever it is, they really should announce it and/or get this sorted out.

Miami City Ballet did the Glinka pas de trois at the Balanchine celebration at City Center several years back (2018?). I remember it being delightful.

Tiler Peck and Roman Mejia did a piece by Balanchine called Divertimento Brillante, music by Glinka. I had never seen or heard of it before. A fun piece that showed off the dancers. Anyone know when it was choreographed and where it's been?
I have no idea if it's related, but several years back during the Balanchine celebration at City Center, I saw Miami City Ballet do Glinka pas de trois. I can't remember if it had a pas de deux or not. I thought it was a delightful piece. I've asked a couple of time on BA whether anyone knows the piece or why it's not in NYCB's rep, and no one answered. Mysteries of the repertory.

They're so inspiring me to go next year!
Agree, Marta! Same inspiration! vipa is doing wonders for Vail's advertising.

Sorry I meant to say - Olivia Bell
Thanks vipa. Good to hear. I saw Bell a few years back in the SAB workshop in a featured role, and thought she had tremendous poise and presence for someone so young.

Just want to add that young NYCB corps member did an excerpt from Tarantella. She looked very nervous and very promising!
WHICH corps member?

This sounds so exciting. I can see how book excerpts would be dull when you have so many great dancers on hand. Thanks for the blow-by-blow reports, vipa.

Thank you for this report vipa! Glad you and mr. vipa made it in time, it must have been nerve-wracking. It sounds like a wonderful experience to be there. You are inspiring me to plan for next year.

Anyone know why Sept 30 at 8PM is not on offer to purchase at all?
Could it be they are holding this for an as-yet-unannounced retirement?

By the way, does anyone know if there's a way for subscribers to exchange tickets online? Or is this through phone/in-person only?
As far as I know it’s only phone or in person. It can be complicated since they have to fit you into the same price tier as your original seat. I usually have to ask about multiple dates before they find an open seat in my price tier. I wouldn’t mind going up a ring but they so often aren’t opening third and fourth rings that isn’t always an option. Then there’s the wait on hold before you even get to a ticket agent. It’s a pain in the neck and honestly sometimes I don’t bother and just give my ticket to a friend.

Thanks, @California, for pointing out the "Add to Apple Wallet" option. Last year I found some tickets showed up with a barcode online and I was able to use Apple Wallet, but for some shows there was no barcode and I had to go with a regular paper ticket. I hope this is an option ongoing for all tickets.

I managed to get tickets for opening night and the 75th anniversary. The website is not easy to navigate. Once you add a ticket to your cart, even if you click "continue shopping" it's hard to find your way back to the calendar for additional dates. Also the tickets for opening night and the anniversary appear to be moving very fast. More than once, I clicked on what seemed to be an open seat only to be told it was already taken and I had to refresh the seating chart, then find a seat in the row behind.

Has anyone received email notification from NYCB recently regarding "anything".
Yes, I have gotten several emails over the past month or so about priority sales starting on July 27.

Thank you for this analysis, @choriamb. There's a lot to consider besides audience favorites!

I don't see any reason to not promote Jake Roxander even though he joined the company in 2022. If someone is clearly a star, performing at a level higher than one's rank and higher than the level of people at the rank above... it sounds like good cause to promote.
Agree. I have not seen ABT at all this summer, but I saw Roxander and Magbitang in the Neapolitan last year. Magbitang at the time was getting a ton of attention (has he danced at all this season), but it was Roxander who really caught my eye with his very large dancing and warm, compelling presence. At the time he must have just joined the corps or still been an apprentice. He looked very good then and has obviously made great strides. The company needs new talent and excitement. Why hold back?

Thanks for this report @FPF, and I look forward to your comments tomorrow! Good to hear that Jovani Furlan (who missed the Spring season) and Brittany Pollack (like you said, out for years) are back in action. And great to hear that the lovely Sara Adams got appreciation in Liturgy. And totally, totally agree on the need for NYCB to post headshots of the dancers. Why has this been discontinued??

They were completely unfamiliar with the story and when Tybalt killed Mercutio the girl next to me let out an audible gasp, followed by the words Oh my god!
Glad to hear she was engaged and deeply affected! I sense a ballet, and Shakespeare, fan in the making.

I am away for the summer and have missed the entire season. I wasn't sorry to miss LWFC, which I would not have seen even if I was in NY, but after reading so many reviews on here, I have been sorry not to be able to see Giselle, SL, or R&J. From all these reports, there are several dancers that I look forward to seeing sometime soon. Hoping for the best with the Fall programming!

Thanks, @RUKen! I did not know about that book. I'm currently working my way through the Dance in America anthology, which is what made me think of it (the anthology includes an article by Holly Brubach), but maybe I will try out the LeClercq book next.
-
Does anyone know what ever became of Brubach's work on a biography of Tanaquil LeClercq? As far as I can tell, no such biography was ever published.
-
Yes, Janzen was great. Maybe that was why they programmed it at the time! I'm trying to remember, he must have alternated with someone in the role, does anyone remember who? Could it have been Ask La Cour?
