The Tudor, MacMillan, Nureyev and Ariaz versions are the only ones I can recall. I've never seen the Smuin, Stevenson, Tomasson versions. I wish to see Ashtons.

I love the Cranko R&J for many reasons. I also admire it for being the first Western production.

I'm sure Bens "Sleeping Beauty" has changed a lot since the old National Ballet of Washington days, but back then Susan Lorher was an incredibly beautiful (sur le pointe) Carabosse. She even had huge wings while guiding the Prince to Auroras castle.

Starting Oct 7, John Stamos will play Guido, Jenna Elfman will play Carla and Eartha Kitt will play Lillian LaFlur.

Rebecca Luker will remain with the cast as Claudia and Mary Stuart Masterson will continue playing Louisa.

I've been studying a video of the Stuttgart/Cranko "Romeo and Juliet."

The Juliet is Stuttgart principal dancer Sue Jin Kang. She is very beautiful.

Has anyone seen her perform live?

I thought it was a cute touch to have them meet for late supper at his real life restaurant.

There is a place called The Abbey Hotel, Jack (sorry I no longer have the phone number but maybe you can find their website.) One can see Miami City Ballets studios from the front door of the hotel. It is also quite close to the ocean.

It is not exactly mom and pop, but it is elegant and quiet.

I believe you are thinking of Glenda Jackson in "Mary Queen of Scots", which is also a marvelous, if not quite accurate take on the lives of Elizabeth Tudor and Mary Stuart. They meet face to face twice in the film.

The scene takes place at a court dance. All are merry and gay when Elizabeth receives the news. She falls to the floor (in a very beautiful gown) and bemoans her status. "The Scottish Queen is lighter of a fair son, and I am but barren stock!"

Glenda just chews the scene up!

Just watched an old taped off of tv video of Monotones II.

I have "Swan Lake" with Makarova/Dowell and then "Monotones II", "Five Brahams Waltzes in the Manner of Isadora Duncan" (Lynn Seymour is still nothing short of amazing), and "Romeo and Juliet" balcony pas with Leslie Collier and Antony Dowell all on the same video. All of the performances are given at the Royal Opera House.

In Monotones II I'm pretty sure the woman is Vergie Derman but does anyone know who the two men are?

Imagine what it would be like for a choreographer to have the buget of one days filming on a movie such as MATRIX with which to make a full length ballet.

On September 14, 2003 the Los Angeles Opera will present the world premiere of Deborah Drattells "Nicholas And Alexandra."

Mstislav Rostropovich will make his debut with LA Opera as conductor and Placido Domingo will portray Rasputin - his 120th role.

Running time is 2 hours and 44 minutes.

Performances are given - Sept 14, 17, 20, 23, 26.

Don't blush when I say this Victoria, but your era at ABT was one of the most glamorous there has been. What a stunning bunch! I wish I still had my souvenir program with photographs by Avedon.

Gail Israel was a strong and striking ABT dancer in the early seventies.

I saw her live and will never forget the picture of her in the souvenir program in which she is in a good split in the air from "The Combat."

Does anyone know of her career after ABT?

Sorry Grace. Though I knew Simon in NYC many years ago and have heard wonderful reports about him as a teacher, I've never seen his ballets.

Mazzo was gorgeous. Dark hair and snow white skin (like Margot), perfect body and warm in a very quiet way.

I believe that conversation is recreated in "ElizabethR" dirac.

One more reason to watch "ElizabethR." Of course La Volta is the number one reason.

It may also be possible that Elizabeth had too much fun under Catherine Parrs roof.

It's interesting that the corps looked incredible during the Baryshnikov years and for some years after that. I never spoke with Balanchine but I'd bet he didn't mind the corps looking good.

Those years were wonderful times to see the beauty of his ballets.

The plague kept Henrys third wife Jane Seymour out of London for most of her brief time as his wife. She must have had a coronation before the birth of their son but I am not sure. Does anyone know if the very young Elizabeth lived with Henry and Jane?

Speaking of Ring Around the Rosy, there is wonderful footage of the five children of Nicholas and Alexandra playing this game on the deck of their yacht Standart.

It's true Perky, Karin did not have long legs. Her feet were big. Her head was big. I didn't love how she held her hands. But she was beautiful facially with incredible cheek bones. I always thought that Violette was Balanchines French beauty and Karin was his German beauty.

Von Aroldingen did not have the typical Balanchine body and mind you there were some great beauties in the company in those years. One could easily mistake the souvenir program for a book of models.

Karin had great musicality, sophistication and could also jazz it up. She didn't seem afraid of not dancing pretty.
