2024-25 digital seasons, pay-per-view and other paid video content

Recommended Posts

Digital seasons and pay-per-view ballet streams seem to be a vanishing phenomenon. But Pacific Northwest Ballet is continuing to offer seven streams for $300. This season there is a caveat: "PNB is not able to guarantee all works in the 2024/25 Season will be available to stream digitally because each work is negotiated individually with rights holders." At the moment, Crystal Pite's Emergence is missing from Rep IV, and Twyla Tharp's Nine Sinatra Songs is missing from Rep VI.

October 3-7: Edwaard Liang: The Veil Between Worlds; Justin Peck: The Times Are Racing; Jessica Lang world premiere

November 14-18: George Balanchine: Square Dance; Prodigal Son; Stravinsky Violin Concerto

December 20-28: George Balanchine's The Nutcracker

February 13-17: Peter Boal, after Marius Petipa: The Sleeping Beauty

March 27-31: Jerome Robbins: Afternoon of a Faun; Marco Goecke: Mopey; Price Suddarth world premiere

April 24-28: Jean-Christophe Maillot: Roméo et Juliette

June 12-16: Kiyon Ross: …throes of increasing wonder; Rena Butler world premiere

The Australian Ballet will stream two performances in 2024.

Christopher Wheeldon's new ballet about Oscar Wilde will be livestreamed on Tuesday, November 19, at 7:15 pm AEST, equivalent to 3:15 am Eastern.

The Nutcracker, staged by Peter Wright, will be livestreamed on Thursday, December 12, at 7:15 pm AEDT, also 3:15 am Eastern. (I watched this production once, a long time ago, on a flight, and it looked like Wright's Birmingham production, which I also don't know especially well.)

The performances will be available on demand for 14 days after the livestreams. The cost is $29 AUD (about $19 USD) per stream or $52 AUD (about $34 USD) for both streams.

Thank you….I was not tracking this and would very much like to see the Wilde ballet.

By November it will have been a year since the Australian Ballet had livestreamed a performance. I had given up hope of seeing another. But surely if anything on the company's schedule merits international attention, it would be Oscar (and I notice that the title has been copyrighted). I would be happier if Wheeldon weren't advertised as "the visionary choreographer behind An American in Paris and MJ the Musical," but I'm going to assume that this approach is based on market research.
