NYCB seminar and Studio Talk schedule

The first seminar is coming up:

NYCB SEMINAR: FEBRUARY 6, 2006

The Universal World of Dance featuring Sofiane Sylve, Ask la Cour and Joaquin de Luz will be the subject of New York City Ballet’s next seminar. The moderator will by Joan Quatrano. The vast majority of NYCB dancers come to the Company through the School of American Ballet, yet, dancers born and trained abroad have also found their way to NYCB. Some of NYCB’s most distinguished artists have come from Denmark, England, France, Germany, Russia, Spain and other countries. The February 6 seminar will focus on the lives and careers of three of these dancers who have traveled far to find their artistic home at New York City Ballet. We hope you will join us on Monday, February 6 from 6:00-7:30pm at the New York State Theater as we learn more about these celebrated artists. General Admission is $5.00. The event is free to Guild, Circle of Friends, Family Circle, Society in C, New Combinations Fund Members and Corporate and Foundation Donors.

Alexei Ratmansky discusses his new work for NYCB and life at the helm of the Bolshoi Ballet.

Friday, January 13, 6:45-7:30pm

Musical Drama: How Tschaikovsky's music illuminates the story of Swan Lake

Pianist Alan Moverman will discuss and play musical themes in Tschaikovsky's score that establish the conflict and characters in the ballet. Video clips of several dancers' interpretations of the roles will be shown.

Two spring season Diamond Project-related seminars:

Monday, March 20:

Choreographer and Director of the Aterballeto ballet company,

Mauro Bigonzetti and his frequent collaborator Composer M. Bruno

Moretti, have teamed up to create a new work as part of the 2006 Diamond

Project. Join us for a lively discussion, as these two artists explore

their work over the past four years and the progress they are making on

their new ballet. NYCB dancers Maria Kowroski and Jason Fowler will

join them. Joan Quatrano will moderate the discussion.

On Monday, April 10, Bolshoi Ballet Artistic Director Alexei Ratmansky

will participate in a seminar at New York City Ballet, in celebration of

the spring season Diamond Project, a festival of new choreography. The

2006 Diamond Project will mark the first ballet Mr. Ratmansky has

created for New York City Ballet. Former New York Times Chief Dance

Critic Anna Kisselgoff will moderate this lively discussion on the

process of creating this new work.
