rg
the two following links go to 'albums' of russian ballet photos. one includes all portraits from the pre-revolution era; the other, concentrates on the career of michel fokine as both choreogapher and dancer. the latter might prove esp. apt nowadays to new yorkers w/ a.b.t.'s current presentation of fokine's ballets - 2 for city center (or 3 if you count the opening night's presentation of 'the dying swan') - as it moves toward a full evening's worth when the co. re-stages PETROUCHKA and the POLOVTSIAN DANCES in 2005. http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p...210&uid=1471587 http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p...472&uid=1471587 Link to comment
rg
for anyone interested in the moscow-lineage of fokine's LES SYLPHIDES (a.k.a. CHOPINIANA) once the choreographer began working outside his native russia, i recently scanned an item of potential interest. it's a post card - undated, but inscribed on the back with the year 1916 which would seem to rule out the prod. of LA SYLPHIDE (in a version staged by tikhomirov in 1923), in which the moscow-favorite geltser danced - so it could be a card produced in russia to mark the ballerina's participation in fokine's 1910 diaghilev paris staging or it could be a souvenir of a production from russia during the same period. as usual, it's also anyone's guest...
