Dale
The January 2004 issues of Dance Magazine and Dance International are out. To me, Dance Magazine's January issue is like Vogue's september issue, the best of the year. DM often isn't interesting to me most of the year, but January's issue is always full of articles and contains its "25 to Watch" feature. Unfortunately, all of the articles are pretty short. Included on the contents are: - Alicia Graf in Her Own Words, and more. (I'm so glad Graf is back, she's a wonderful dancer) - The Resurrection of a Genius by Janice Ross on Leonid Jacobson's centenary (his Choreographic Miniatures will tour the U.S. in Jan. 05) - Boris Kochno's centenary by Allan Ulrich - New York Matters includes bits on Alicia Alonso, Ballet/NY, The Balanchine American Masters doc. and the new Skirball Center. - The 25 to watch are: George Piper Dances, Noemie LaFrance, Benjamin Levy, Dominic Walsh Dance Theater, Stella Abrera, David Hallberg, Verb Ballets, Cathy Marston, Matjash Mrozewski, Nicolas Blanc, Viengsay Valdes, Revealing the Emotional Body, Emily Patterson, Janice Garrett, Seth Orza, Peter Boal and Company [performing at the Joyce in March], Jason Samuels-Smith, Margie Gillis, Erick Montes, Bradon McDonald, Paulette Beauchamp, Train Wreck, Vincent Matsoe, Larry Keigwin, Christopher Stowell. - Balanchine Lives: A Nose for Nuance by Clive Barnes Balanchine trhough the Eyes of Choreographers Now by Wendy Perron The Incredible Lightness of Kyra Nichols by Robert Greskovic Balanchine Boogies on Broadway by Camille Hardy Reviews include one on the Cuban Ballet - Rants and Raves: Ballet is Sexy by Wendy Perron ======================== Dance International Winter 2003 Features include: - Persson's Evolving Passion on Persson's photography. - A tale of Two Companies on Atlantic Ballet and Ballet Victoria Two Canadians in Stuttgart Music and Movement on Miami City Ballet's ballroom work by Villella The reviews and diary section includes Greskovic's take on the Lincoln Center Festival, Kathrine Sorley Walker on Royal Ballet School's showcase, Australian Ballet's Balanchine program, POB's Balanchine program, Anne-Marie Elmby's Danish Dairy features NYCB's visit and RDB's Balanchine program, Marc Haegeman profiles' the Kirov's new rep., Sylvia Polletti's Inside Italy spotlights Murru and Bolle.
