Rochester City Ballet uses this variation in its Nut production. They call it English Toffee, and the choreography is not a jig at all, but mostly jumps and turns on the diagonal. The variation is for a single female, and the costume used to be a dark green velvet riding-style jacket/short skirt combo, with a white ruffled blouse with high collar, a feathered cap, and riding crop as a prop. The costume was remade a few years ago using navy and peach colors, in the same style. The dancer uses the crop with a whipping motion and also as a means to hold a hand at each end either in front of her or overhead during turns.

The variation is short but the music and choreography are exciting. It is always a crowd-pleaser.

Ethan Stiefel announced last week that he is stepping down as Dean of the School of Dance at UNCSA at the end of this school year, in part so that he can be free to perform more.

My mother attended a taping of The View with one of her girlfriends a few months ago. It was much as you described, plus the co-hosts were very friendly, candid and chatty. The conversations during the commercial breaks can be more interesting than the show itself. And yes, they received gifts under their seats.

Colorado isn't a great place for the arts in general.

Is that true of all arts, YouOverThere? I have a friend who is a visual artist in Denver and her business is thriving with new commissions and opportunities for exhibits. My understanding from her and another person is that visual artists do very well in Denver. Is she an exception?

Last night while visiting the photo gallery of a particular ballet academy my daughter gasped at a photo of a teenage girl in a surprisingly high arabesque. Surprising, because the legs were not hers! I was initially looking from a distance, but upon closer inspection it became obvious that the legs had been Photoshopped onto the bottom of the costume (and not a perfect match, either). A ballet academy (with a recognized name) resorted to this?

Since my earlier post I have found the 2009-10 season rep via the press releases in the News section of the company website. I would still appreciate any info about the 2010-11 season as well as any info about the quality of the productions since Mr. Canfield's arrival and the well publicized turnover last year. I am not finding many reviews.

Bumping this up for any 2009-10 info about NBT. Its season rep has been eliminated from the website, with only the final performances remaining.
