  1. I saw this post too and must say I am so impressed with these dancers! There was no indication (for me) that the company was dancing under emergency conditions. In fact I marveled at how they manage not to run into one another in the final waltz. Breathtaking and beautiful! I'm not always a fan of Megan F but I thought she just sparkled in her part with Huxley.

Agree, with Abatt about Tiler in Ballo and all the soloists were stunning. Adrian did stand out in Kammermusik, in fact to me he seemed the only one with the precise, clear movements that save steps like these from looking like a bunch of flailing arms.

  2. Pherank, I can't help with your question but I do have a vague memory of seeing this movie as an almost teen. It llooks like Mickey Callan as the shorter male dancer in the rumble. I always thought he was cute in the various movies he was in during the 60s and was surprised to learn later that he started out as a dancer. At first I thought the tall male dancer looked like Tucker Smith (Ice in West Side Story) but I don't think I'm right about that one.

  3. YouOverThere, I wondered over in the Julie Kent/Washington Ballet thread if she might consider hiring Kathryn. Seemsto me that it would be a good fit. Thanks for posting about the evening. Can you tell us a little more about the pieces she performed?

  4. I heard this too, Abatt from a woman I take pilates with. Her son dates a free lance dancer who was in the DC production and was part of the workshop. I wondered if Tiler Peck would be involved again. Selfishly I think that will mean time away from NYCB and just when we got Robbie Fairchild back. Is it too much to hope that Ashley Bouder would be back from maternity leave before Tiler would need to take time off?

  5. If she's looking to expand the company I wonder if Julie Kent would consider hiring Kathryn Morgan for the Washington Ballet. Kathryn has been busy with her Ballet in the City programs the latest of which is at the Kennedy Center March 29/30. This might be a good indicator of her current stamina and being in a smaller company than NYCB might be a good fit. However, what with her youtube presence and various other activities perhaps Ms Morgan is no longer interested in joining a company.

  6. Natalia, I don't know which makes me sadder, "guest artist" or "on leave". In either case, I hope that the last time I saw him dance wasn't the final time. On the other hand I think this is the better way to handle his absence rather than hoping for tbds or as in the past, casting him only to have that change.

  7. If Flesh and Bone wasn't your cup of tea, like me, try Mozart in the Jungle (2 seasons streamed on Amazon). It's a comedy so inherently lighter than F&B, set in the world of classical music. Filmed on location in NYC with lots of wonderful guest stars (including the always wonderful Debra Monk) and Gael Garcia Bernal as the maestro ala Gustavo Dudamel. And Bernadette Peters for a cherry on the top. Sweet and charming!

  8. I completely agree, volcanohunter. These extensions distort any semblance of line or purity. It's the reason I'm not a fan of contemporary dance, which to me is more like acrobatics. And to see these tricks added to classical canon thoroughly annoys me.
