  1. It took me over an hour both online and on the phone, but eventually I got everything I wanted.

For many month, ever since the Spring season had been announced, I swore to myself I was going to be frugal this year, but completely lost it at the last moment. :D I blame last night Vasilyev Gala for it - it was so emotional and I realized that I miss ballet so much. Couldn't resist the temptation :)

I only bought tickets for Cojocaru Sleeping Beauty so far. Do you all think everything is selling well? The Met is hard to sell out, so I'm thinking rep performances might be easier to get. Am I wrong? Also does anyone think there is a prayer that any same day tickets will show up at the discount atrium?

This is a bit OTP . There has been several mentions of Same-Day-Discounted-Dance-Tickets in BT . Where is the discount atrium located and is it like the TKTS for Broadway shows? Thanks.

  2. Fascinating stuff, Dale.

IMO, Grey's variation should suit Part perfectly. It's for a tall dancer, who can display slowly undulating limbs. Just like Part's Odette variation.

Hee Seo was amazingly good in it last night. I can imagine how Part will perform it.

    Was the ballet ever recorded?

  3. Has anybody seen this? I didn't even know it was on, and somehow the songs were often on my mind, esp. 'The Telephone Hour'. From what I can tell, it was at the Roundabout and has moved to Henry Miller's Theater. Official website tickets thru Telecharge doesn't work tonight, thus far, and other ticket prices I find ridiculous, even though I thought I might like to see this (all beginning above $100, and most much more). Would still like to know what those who saw it thought, and was also interested that the title song, written for the movie, was included at the end. That should have made it even richer in some ways, as I think the Strouse/Adams score is unique and first-rate. Try and think of another one like it. It's got all kinds of moods in it, and even though a period piece, it weirdly never seems 'dated'. The movie is good 3/4 of the way through, even though leaving out some good songs, but ruined by stupid stuff with 'reverse television scene' and Janet Leigh's unfortunately poor dancing (she was otherwise good, as usual. I'm sure anybody that saw Chita Rivera do it cannot even watch it.)

I have not seen it. The revival did not get positive reviews from the NY critics but if you really want to see it (without the >$100 tickets) there are discounted tickets at the TDF website for some future performances.

  4. Osipova is also to do Act III of the June 3rd performance with Carreno.

Good point. I wonder what other members think about the special June 3d performance, where 3 pairs of Basilios/Kitris will be dancing their applicable portion of a single ballet, versus a "regular" performance? Has the ABT done something like this before?

I remember one Gala(but don't remember when) where there were 3 Kitris doing the Grand PDD( not together but one after another).

  5. Ludmila Pagliero is from Argentina and was a soloist at the National ballet of Chile before entering POB in 2003 I think, at the first level like any other dancer.

She raised quite quickly in the ranks though, due to her strong technical background but still, as she has only been a Sujet for one year, she hasn’t got yet so much soloist roles in Paris so it’s really difficult to tell how she will develop but she shows some nice promises.

When she danced the main role in Les enfants du Paradis last year, I thought she was really excellent as an actress too. As she is strong technically she could invest in the interpretation which was important in this ballet. However, she has been mainly seen in contemporary repertoire where she is really stunning with a lot of musicality. I think she has done most of the contemporary ballets the past years... but she’s very strong and secure technically, so perhaps we will see her next in more classical parts?

I don't recall of any recent foreign-born dancer who has risen so fast in POB. I remember her winning a silver medal in NYIBC a few years ago. If she is promoted to Etoile-status, she would be the ist foreigner to be promoted, i think. The Parisian fans do not seem to be thrilled with this possibility.

  6. This movie, not previously much available, and thus sought after by those who caught things from movie channel telecasts, is now on DVD and being offered on Amazon.

With any luck, the following link to Amazon should work and open the page on the movie's recent DVD release.

[a link i suspected might work has been removed by me, i assume one can got to Amazon and search for the item by title, etc.]

There is a lovely Ashton-choreographed ballet for the Moira Shearer episode,if i remember correctly.

  7. Thanks, Cristian, for those links. The videos all seem to be from performances in prior years. For example, Katia Carranza and Jeremy Cox in Symphony in 3 Movements is from 2007.

Does anyone recognize the dancers in Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux? That's not Mikhail Ilyin, is it?

I was interested in the emphasis that Villella gave to the war imagery in Symphony in Three Movements and and anti-war aspects of Company B. I'll be looking more closely for those than I might ordinarily.

Yes, who is the ballerina in the TPDD clip? She''s lovely . I would like to see her complete performance.

  8. I'm disappointed to see so little here for my favorite up and coming corps members: I don't see anything new here for Eric Tamm, and where is Isabella Boylston? ... but perhaps I'm expecting too much. But I'm totally dismayed at the absence (are they in there *anywhere*?) of Misty Copeland, Kristi Boone and Yuriko Kajiya.

There are 3 other female soloist-type roles in Dame de Camellas. I imagine the ladies you mentioned will be cast in these roles.

  9. Surprisingly, we enjoyed the Millepied piece very much. It,probably, would be even more effective if seen in a bigger space and from an upper seat.Stella was just great in her 2 very different roles.Maria B., Renata, Eric and esp Arron S. were standouts in their solos.

i did not like the AF Hall venue. Surely, the Koch Theatre can squeeze ABT for 2 weeks in the fall?

  10. I just noticed the casting for the SoCal engagement on the ABT website. Most interesting is that Gillian Murphy is scheduled to dance Giselle with Hallberg. Here in NY, she has only danced the secondary role of Myrta, if my memory is correct. If any balletTalkers attend, please provide a report.

Can't really visualize Murphy as Giselle... :thanks:

Or Maria Ricetto as Myrta. Surely, it's a typo error, i hope. I'm disappointed that Stella is not cast as Giselle. Maybe, at the Met season?
