  1. A last point is the distracting and unnecessary movements of those in the background while a dance is being performed. Those not involved in the dance must stand or sit "frozen."

I must disagree with this point. In a story ballet it is customary for those in the background to act naturally. They are often instructed to move about, pretend to talk with others, etc. In saying this though, their movemnts should enhance the overall feel of the main action, not distract from it.

I have the Romeo and Juliet DVD to which you refer, and I have not found the background players to be distracting.

  2. I just noticed on the Colorado Ballet website that Jocelyn Labsan is listed as "Interim Artistic Director". What happened to Martin Fredmann? He's listed under the Board of Trustees, but his name no longer appears in the staff directory, nor under "Artistic Staff". :)

  3. At 16, she began working on the quadruple salchow, landing her first one in competition at Skate America in 2001.

I attended Skate America that year, and as I recall, she TRIED to land the quadruple salchow in competition, but did not.

As far as "not having time to train", I find that hard to swallow. Competitive skaters train hour after hour nearly every day of the week. When you travel to your competition site, there is always an opportunity to practice, especially when you are at the elite level. When Sasha was here in 2001 for Skate America, she was featured in our local newspaper practicing at several ice rinks in town.

  4. The ARTS channel (shown on cable) is currently showing the Alicia Alonso video of the Black Swan. Her pirouettes and her balance are truly incredible! If you haven't seen her dance before, tune into ARTS and try to catch the video when it airs. She was amazing! :D:clapping:
