It has to be tough without their own opera house. I know they tour, but for the most part it seems to be feast or famine with performing. They have long breaks where they aren’t performing and then have to shove a bunch of different ballets into a super short timeframe. It seems unsatisfying artistically and also more likely to cause injury.
They need to solve the issue of the four weeks they lost at the Met.

Agreed. It just pains me to think that yet another deserving dancer is left behind. KM undeservedly, sidelined so many over his tenure or, worse, promoted them almost past their prime.
And Soloist Blaine Hoven seldom is cast anymore. So that means that Patrick Frenette, Andrei Ischuck (sp) and other Corps. men will be cast in semi soloist roles, at Corps. salary/structure.

Momo, I very much agree with you about Frenette and probably Andris Ischkuk (sp?) too imo.
Yes. Also agree with you on Andrei.

Happy for the three promotions, which are deserved. Patrick Frenette needed to be promoted as well, in my opinion.

Yes. They were very well matched.
Jake posted their rehearsal on his Instagram. They looked great. And Takumi is just an apprentice! Marvelous, high jumps!

From Facebook:
American Ballet Theatre, its artists, and its administration are delighted to announce a tentative agreement with the American Guild of Musical Artists, representative of its artists, indicative of a new chapter in artist support and excellence.Susan Jaffe, Artistic Director, stated, "This agreement is a testament to our shared commitment to the art of ballet and to each other. It represents a significant investment in our artists and sets a new standard for support and recognition in our company."The agreement, arrived at after months of negotiations in a challenging economic environment, ensures improved remuneration and working conditions, in line with ABT's dedication to its artists.Jaffe added, "As we celebrate this momentous achievement, we look forward to continuing to push the boundaries of artistic expression and inspire audiences around the world."All reactions:1212So, hopefully there will finally be promotions announced soon?

Thank you! This answers a lot of questions for me as to their status. ( I am a retired Banker). 😮😞

Is there a way to obtain access to ABT’s Balance Sheet? I know they are a non profit but I think they still have to report financial information.

This is excellent news. I recently saw on Instagram that Irina and Max are rehearsing Corps. de Ballet member Luigi Crispino as Purple Von Rothbart.

That's exciting news: you'll be able to see them before they rise up the ranks!
Thank you. Three that stood out: Brady Farrar, Takumi Miyake ( his jumps. Wow), and Kyra Coco.

I have tickets for Boylston/Whiteside on December 14th. I chose that date because my entourage and me could only attend on that date. I chose the date before casting was announced. Two of my attendees are first timers for ABT Nutcracker.
I just watched the ABT Studio perform on You Tube tonight. Really outstanding performances from these young artists. Sascha Radetsky said members of the Studio Company will perform in Nutcracker in December in Orange County.

Misty may have wanted to make a return, but may also realize that she just doesn't have the level of stamina or minimal technique anymore because of the years she has spent on other non-ballet projects. Misty interviewed Twyla Tharp for a PBS show this summer, and Twyla asked Misty when she will be returning to the stage. Misty smiled sheepishly and said she was working on it. At this point, maybe the most Misty could handle would be something in character shoes, like a Paul Taylor work or that Twyla ballet where Misty wore character shoes (Beach Boys music, I think). While she knows that her career at ABT has meant a lot to her followers, she must also be well aware of her limitations.
The name of the Twyla ballet was Deuce Coupe, to Beach Boys music. Yes, she was very good in that.

I agree. This may be the least excited I've ever been for a spring ABT season (and last season was pretty bad). I was very underwhelmed with Onegin when ABT last staged it and found the choreography unimaginative and at times cringy. So I'm really finding little to look forward to.
ABT has often announced retirements separately from its season announcement. I think it's entirely possible Gillian may still retire this season, though I did expect her retirement to be well-planned in advance and perhaps included in the season announcement.
All signs point to Copeland never returning to ABT, and I'm not sad about it.
I agree that Misty won’t be back, imo. She hasn’t danced with ABT since 2019. She has had a baby and is now involved with other projects.

With the Met season announced, Can the promotions be far behind ?🤗😜
I think they are waiting until contracts are negotiated and signed.

I'll look forward to reading your thoughts on both, and others, if you care to share. Wish I could attend.

Interesting, I thought Gonzalez stood out in the class. He's never caught my eye onstage, but have not seen him do anything featured. I thought Frenette who is talked up quite a lot on this forum looked comparatively mediocre. De la Nuez has potential.
Mostly agree on the women. Misseldine is striking but she has an extremely shallow plié. Beyer looks ready for soloist roles, at a minimum. Fangqi Li looks lovely, even doing a stunning balance in arabesque penché at one point.
Catherine Hurlin and Daniel Camargo (who took barre, way in the back) also rehearsed Don Q pas with Kolpakova:
I disagree about Patrick Frenette. I thought he looked strong. Especially his cabrioles. And Susan complimented him a few times. And Irina Kopalkova is a treasure. What a wonderful teacher.

Casting has been posted. No Misty. Teuscher/Ahn, Seo/Camargo, Hurlin/Bell, Brandt/Cornejo, Shevchenko/Forster, Boylston/Whiteside, Trenary/Royal, Park/Stearns. The only combo doing 2 shows is Seo, Teuscher, Hurlin and Brandt.
Where is the casting posted? Thank you.

Talking about talent, Jonathan Klein has been MIA all season at ABT. Has anyone seen him in anything? Another potential Franz and Colas. BTW: La Fille Mal Gardée and Coppélia would work well in the NYST Theater (say no to the K*ch). Also, having seen the full reconstruction at the Bolshoi as choreographed by Sergei Vikharev, the old Freddie Franklin version looks cut down and twee. It also pales next to the Balanchine/Danilova across the plaza.
For example at the Bolshoi in the Dance of the Hours there were 24 corps ballerinas, the Frederick Franklin made for smaller touring companies has 12 hours in a day. Not enough hours for me. I think a new fully reconstructed Coppélia is a must. Sorry to those who love the Franklin version and loved Freddie himself.
Jonathan and his wife Emily Hayes started a facial care business and it’s start coincided with Fall Season. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CyD-o3jg81n/?igshid=YjVjNjZkNmFjNg==

I think the Met Opera gives free tickets to certain doctors for this reason. I’m surprised that ABT doesn’t have a similar policy.
I live in California and attend ABT performances at Segerstrom in Orange County. The theater has a medical room off the Orchestra section, which includes a wheelchair, resting table, medical supplies and a trained nurse on duty during performances. It is indeed disturbing that the Koch didn’t have that last night.

It's usually not easy to replace a key member of a negotiating team, no matter what side they're on.
AGMA ( Union for dancers), sent a letter to ABT management today regarding the dancers working without a contract. It was very stern.

All injury reports need to be from official, public-facing sources, with a link or citation.
After a whirlwind of a Met season last summer, it’s saddens me to say I will not be performing this Fall Season due to a back injury. I’m on the mend but my body still needs time to heal. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to supporting my colleagues on the fantastic season they have ahead of them and soaking up the inspiration for when I come back. (This is Tyler Maloney’ s post on his FB dates October 4th). This is why he is not dancing Bottom, as he normally would.

She'd said fall of 2023 around the time her child's birth was announced, and then revised her come-back date as Nutcracker season 2023 when she spoke with Whiteside.

Thank you for this article. I have not seen her in any rehearsals on Instagram for Fall performances, which start on October 18th.
ABT promotions for Jarod Curley, Carlos Gonzalez, Jake Roxander

If Blaine Hoven would retire (he’s not cast as much anymore), there would be room in the Soloist ranks for Patrick.
