  1. I'm not a fan of City Ballet or its AD, but I commend SJP for trying to make the dancers seem less elitist. (Yes, that's important to some of us.)

Also, I noticed that both this series and the one on SAB have gone out of their way to show racial diversity, particularly when it comes to FEMALE dancers of color.

That is refreshing. (I don't believe they're indifferent to criticism about their lack of diversity). It was particularly nice to briefly see Olivia Boisson, the only black female in City Ballet AND Jasmine Perry who was a student at SAB and is now with Los Angeles Ballet.

City Ballet has frequently looked like the Mariinsky of 60 years ago.

I have to agree with this.

  2. I have a Ballet Essentials ticket for Oct.4 Sat @ 10:30am in the Rose Building to give away. This event is currently sold out. (I tried to give it back to the ticket office to resell but they were not interested; I have two performances and a dinner to go to Oct.4 and this would no doubt wipe out my old bones so I would like to give it someone who can use it).

If you can figure out how to private message me on this site we can figure out how to get you the ticket. I am currently in NYC and can mail it to you or pass it to you at the DHK theatre sometime. I will be at every performance this week and rehearsals on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

    I sent you a message.

  3. I went last night also.

The cables failed to lift Puck - did anyone realize this? in the end, he was supposed to levitate and 'sing', but the cables drooped around him instead. Troy Schumacher just played it up as if nothing was wrong, as well as the other butterflies surrounding him. happy.png

  4. So judging from what's shared -- perhaps it doesn't look like the JR piece will prevail to become a new NYCB classic, or stick past its 1 week debut. Or maybe they can take it out on the road to find its audience alternatively. oh well.

Excited for next week. Got a tkt for the 10th.

  5. I'm not sure about Georgina. She hasn't been given leading roles in the essential Balanchine ballets. Her most memorable role to date has been as Anita in West Side Story. I'd like to see her in lead roles in Robbins ballets, like Opus 19 the Dreamer, In The Night and I'm Old Fashioned.

    Agreed. She seems underused.

  6. Ashley Laracey. She is a seasoned professional with artistic maturity. No doubt Lauren Lovette is also on the path to become a principal but she is still so young. I hope they give her another year or two a bit protected before burdening her with the responsibilities of a principal. But I think Laracey is ready now.

My vote is also Ashley Laracey.
