  1. Their season starts in only three weeks and there are a ton, and I mean a TON, of seats available. I only looked at the orchestra, except for one or two shows, but it's shocking how poorly it's sold. I know many of us on this board aren't overwhelmed with the ballets/casting, but I guess no one else is either. Not even the 27th matinee w/ the Copeland Nutcracker pas has sold well (including the first - fourth rings).

A strange thing - on the Koch website, I just noticed that it lists Other Dances with Lane/Cornejo for "all performances", but that is not the case on ABT's site (Seo/Stearns get 2). I'm sure that's some weird typo.

I know he is listed in the ABT corps ... but surprised there is no casting that I can see for Gabe Stone Shayer.  Is he injured?

I didn’t notice that but you’re right, he’s not listed in anything. He got injured at the end of the Met season but I thought judging by his Instagram he had recovered. (He’s also not cast in Harlequinade in January, a role he did this summer.)

The first and third week casting sheets seem to have been missing from the website all day — or, at least, the links on the "Casting" page haven't been working for me. (Week two has been there.) I get a page that says, "Sorry, the page you requested cannot be found."

I get that now too. Strange as I was able to view it about an hour ago and also this morning. Perhaps they’re updating it.

  4. Casting has been announced for Harlequinade in D.C. in January.

    Of note, Simkin will join.

Debuts: Trenary, Maloney, Royal, and Lendorf (who will return after a long-injury). Great to see another corps dancer get a big debut. I'm sure Trenary will be terrific as well.

Also, of note, IMO, Lane/Abrera with Lendorf/Royal get only one performance. Lane/Abrera gave magical performances at the ballet's debut, but now they get seconds (Trenary/Brandt who are soloists get 2 perf's each).

Not begrudging Trenary/Brandt at all, of whom I'm a big fan. But, Lane is a principal. And, as I just posted on the Fall season thread, Lane only gets one performance in one ballet in October. I knew she wasn't a favorite of the AD, but this is a new low.

    Sorry, rant over.

Added: I believe Trenary already did Columbine. My memory is failing me right now.

He just posted a multi-part post on IG:

I'm happy for him as it sounds like he's got some things he wants to do but I fear they won't replace him and the coverage of dance will be diminished.

He says in his post that he will be replaced.

"The “New York Times” will announce my successor before long. I don’t know when or who that will be - but it’s certainly my understanding that a new chief dance critic will be appointed."

    I hope that doesn't change.

One of your readers wrote "Students, too? I'm sick to my stomach."

It can easily become misconstrued, especially in the media to make the public believe that underage persons were victims in this lawsuit.

I wrote that quote, see below:

OK, I've read part of the amended version (honestly, I skimmed a lot of the legal jargon).

    Students, too?

    I'm sick to my stomach.

    Happy opening night.

I misinterpreted that in the complaint.

My other sentence, which was a separate thought, "I'm sick to my stomach", still stands in regards to everything the defendants are accused of.

Just adding to my own note here that I actually started Adult Beginner Ballet this past weekend and I loved it. Lots to work on but I will enjoy the opportunity to do this and gain real health benefits (better posture, core strength, etc).

Also! I had no idea Sarah Lane is from the Rochester area. I saw on her instagram recently that she was in town at her old studio and also, of course, went to WEGMANS. :)

Welcome! I hope you continue to enjoy your ballet classes. It's never too late to start, for health benefits as you say and for overall enjoyment!

Don’t you think they live sheltered lives?

    Re: Finlay, Catazaro & Ramasar.

They are grown adult men who should know right from wrong and were working professionals until they were fired (Ramasar/Catazaro) or resigned (Finlay).

They were not prisoners in a dungeon, with no access to the outside world, no education, no social interaction, no responsibilities.

Not at all uncommon for complaints to be amended (including to add additional defendants, etc.).

My understanding is that Federal Rules of Civil Procedure permit the amendment of a complaint as a matter of course within 21 days of service, and NY CPLR permits amendment without leave within 20 days of service. (It’s not rare to see filing of an amended complaint beyond this time period, but the process of getting permission to amend gets a little more complex.)

    Thank you.

And I amended my other post to say it’s opening night, not gala night.

It's because Catazaro, Ramasar and SAB have been added as defendants. I'm not sure why now, and if this is common.

Right, but as you mention as well, why weren't they added along with the donor and the other details in the first place? I realize no one here may know the answer, but that's strange to me. Not being an attorney, though, maybe this is common procedure...

There was a supplemental summons, dated today, in which SAB, Ramasar, Catazaro, and Jared Longhitano have been added as defendants to Waterbury's lawsuit.  It's marked "Processed."

    https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/ViewDocument?docIndex=IhSWRI7TsPzZqPu7pRvtvQ==

In addition, there is an amended complaint, also dated today, which is marked "Pending" (as I write).

    https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/nyscef/ViewDocument?docIndex=Lis4cO2R91MS028v6xQ2zA==

Longhitano is identified as the donor.

I haven't read the entire document, but, skimming it, there are more quotes from the communications, including those attributed to Catazaro.

I haven't read this yet, but why was this amended now? Is this typical of complaints? Shouldn't all of the details been outlined in the original complaint?

I think this is very sad news. I always look forward to ABT's spring season at the Met. I've been going for 20+ years. Eight weeks of ballet at the beautiful Metropolitan Opera House--absolutely nothing can top this! It's the highlight of the dance year for me. It seems that most people on this board prefer the Koch Theater over the Met for dance. But not me. I'm not sure what ABT should do, but I truly hope that the company doesn't completely abandon the Met and decamp to the Koch (State) Theater. Others may not agree, but I think that something special will be lost.

I agree that something will be lost, at least to me, if they leave the Met completely. Though I am also in agreement that the Koch is better in some ways for ballet/ABT (better acoustics, fewer seats to sell, etc) there is nothing like the grand and beautiful Met with its red carpeting, spiral staircases, and the star chandeliers that ascend into the ceiling signaling the show is about to start. If they decamp to the Koch and it helps them financially and artistically and keeps them in NYC for a longer season, then I'd have to support it. But, I'd also greatly miss going to the Met for their 8 week extravaganza.

"A tsunami of sexts just up and engulfed me!"

I too found this hilarious! I definitely needed a good laugh in this otherwise very serious and mind-blowing situation/thread.

Adults have no excuse. I wonder if Ramasar and Catazaro are going to release public statements (besides what they've already done) or give interviews explaining their sides. Or, how is it that they're going to tell their stories? Will they sue NYCB?
