Any word on when they will announce their 2017-18 season? I can't find any hints on their web site.
Years ago there were rumors they hoped to do another Bournonville festival, but I haven't seen anything on that either. Any new on that front?
The latest news I have on this, from Nikolaj Hubbe's assistant, is that they are not planning a Bournonville festival as such, but a festival of some sort in June 2018, which would include some Bournonville. That was a few months ago and of course things may have changed. Last year the RDB announced their new season in late April.

Did anyone actually see this? I'm just not sure I'm willing to spend that much on something I know I have very little interested in.
Feeling a bit down at the current offer of ballet to see in Canada during the coming year.
which "this" are you referring to? Pinocchio? I definitely wouldn't recommend it. Actually that's an understatement of my feelings about it.
I am looking forward to the mixed program.

So it turns out I saw Maddox's last performance with the company in Ottawa in January. I'll say this: it was a good one.
Neither Campbell nor Frola is anywhere near as tall as Maddox, so their potential promotions would still leave a significant partnering gap. Also, the male principals are an injury-prone bunch, so I am inclined to think that six is too few, even if there have been as few as four in recent years, following the retirement of Aleksandar Antonijevic.
I agree, but I guess it's what they can afford. Karen Kain often casts lower-than-principal-rank males in principal roles. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Saye as Siegfried in Swan Lake in June, for example. I guess if you can get them to do the principal work without the principal price tag...

Finally, full disclosure: I recently accepted a role at SFB in Audience Engagement and Education, so will be doing less speculation on this site, but will try to pop in now and then to answer questions as I can! And if anyone has thoughts on SFB's audience education initiatives, please feel free to reach out!
Congratulations. I echo what other posters have said about the website. My suggestion would be that under the "Explore Ballet" tab, the "Programs" heading be changed to "Events", since "programs" can be ambiguous. House programs? And I agree that "Explore Ballet" doesn't immediately suggest things like pre-performance talks.

Thank you Josette and Katherine, so the male principal roster is rather thin now.
There are now 5 male principals. In terms of numbers, 6 male principals has been fairly typical at NBOC, and I expect Gabriele Frola or Skylar Campbell will be promoted to principal in June to take it back there.

Dear naomikage and Mashinka : we have had this discussion before a couple of months ago. I am
not Anglo-Saxon and am on a fairly intensive language course and don't want to be bound by the
incorrect pronounciation of Russian names adopted in the West. It is pronounced "Balshoy" in Rus-
sian, and written as "Bolshoy" not "Bolshoi" which I hope will one day go where "Bombay" and "Peking"
went. Please do excuse me regarding this issue.
It doesn't matter how it's pronounced in Russian, we're speaking and writing English, so the conventional English spelling Bolshoi should be used. Someone searching "Bolshoi" on this forum will not find your posts, and many people seeing your headings will have no idea what company you are talking about, or only after some reflection.

Dawson must be a busy man right now. The Royal are reviving his recent The Human Seasons which is part of the triple bill opening on 16th March.

I wonder how he manages to keep an eye on both PNB and the RB ?
The Ballet du Capitole de Toulouse is also doing his Million Kisses to My Skin at the moment.

The Playbill article says "Maddox, a former Principal Dancer with The National Ballet of Canada" but I don't think he has left the company, I thought he had taken sabbatical.
It is my understanding that he has left, but I may be wrong

PBS Boston showed teh Jacob's Pillow doc after the first NYCB program. Apparently in FLorida they showed "Black Ballerina" after NYCB.

plus, what good does it do the ballet lover in Chicago if lots of other ballet companies do Giselle, but they want to see it in Chicago?

I watched this on my TV yesterday and am wondering if I just didn't have the right aspect ratio for my tv (which I tried to adjust but couldn't) or whether other people were also frustrated by feet (and sometimes entire lower legs) being cut off. It's beyond me why camera operators on a long view give you a picture where the dancers take up the lower 1/4 of the picture and the remaining 3/4 is backdrop. News flash: the backdrop in Balanchine ballets is NOT THAT INTERESTING!!! I can't check it online because we can't watch PBS online from Canada (although goodness knows enough Canadians support PBS with their $$$$ grumble grumble grumble)

Is Nureyev's Sleeping Beauty staging for NBoC different from POB? I remember watching NBoC Beauty DVD with Veronica Tennant and Nureyev, it's much abridged, less than 90 minutes long.
It's pretty much the same, but with different sets and costumes (better ones for POB in my opinion). The DVD is abridged because it had to fit into a 90-minute slot for TV. They chopped the fairies, among other things.

I'm a little surprised that this is described as Corrales's "Professional debut". He joined English National Ballet in 2014 and is now a first soloist there. Earlier this month he was the Outstanding Male performance (classical) at the National Dance Awards here in the UK. Perhaps it is intended to indicate that it his first professional appearance in the US ?
I suspect they meant that it is his first appearance at YAGP as a professional, rather than as a competitor. But I agree it is very misleading. When I saw it I also thought, WTH???
