Solor
In the film of the Mariinksy's "Swan Lake" from 1990 with Makhalina and Zelensky, the pas de trois has the last variation missing from it. The pas de trois is danced by Zelensky, Veronika Ivanova, and Larissa Lezhnina. Lezhnina would have danced the last variation of the pas, but for some reason it is omitted. Anyone know why? P.S. - whats with the ugly brown blanket with white flowers that pops up in every Mariinksy/Kirov staging? Link to comment
Hans
I noticed the omission of that variation as well and was quite disappointed, as I adore Lezhnina. I don't know why it was omitted, though. I'm not sure I know what you mean about the blanket...maybe I ought to watch the tape more closely. Link to comment
Marc Haegeman
Lezhnina's variation was included in a TV broadcast of the "Swan Lake" film, but later edited for commercial release because there was a problem with the synchronization between the dancer and the playback tape, especially at the beginning of the variation.
