Alexandra
Copied over from today's Links for discussion: Daniel Wakin of the New York Times News Service in the Berkshire Eagle on belt-tightening at American Ballet Theatre: http://www.berkshireeagle.com/Stories/0,14...2561403,00.html NEW YORK -- American Ballet Theater is freezing pay, cutting positions and canceling tour performances in a wave of cost-cutting measures that it says are putting the company back on the road to financial health.About 50 staff members will take a one-week furlough without pay, and many will not receive raises this year. Thanksgiving-week performances at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in California were canceled because of the high cost of putting on shows during a holiday. And the company's general manager was dismissed in a move that the troupe said was among cost-saving measures imposed even as the company has grown in dancers, number of performances and time spent touring. Mel Johnson
As Gertrude Stein is reputed to have said on her deathbed, "What is the answer?" Silence She sat up in bed, then said, "Then what is the question?" Link to comment
art076
This is a reprint of an article which ran in the New York Times earlier this fall...and I also seem to remember discussion somewhere on this board about that very article as well. The article notes a byline of "New York Times News Service" so it seems like a wire story that was pulled and reprinted for whatever reason. Link to comment
