I still can't find casting info anywhere, although this YouTube clip posted by the WB shows (I think) Maki Onuki as one of the Medoras and Andile Ndlovu as Ali:
I also found this wonderful set of rehearsal photos by Shauna Alexander:

Tonight's the first performance (officially just a 'preview' but still...). The official opening is tomorrow.
Thanks so much for the rehearsal photos - I hadn't seen them! As I had to miss this production, it was great to see some of the trainees & students featured in the shots -
So wish I could have gone! Looked like a marvelous production -

Pennsylvania Ballet has unveiled it's new web site:

Casting is posted for their performances at the Academy of Music:

I'm planning to attend Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at the Kennedy Center. Any other Ballet talkers going?
Wish I could - please report back! Will go to one (or more) of the Philadelphia shows for the first time this year..

We have a lot of writers who read and post to this board - does no one have any comments? I realize this speaks for itself, but I see people lurking and looking, but not commenting.
Not a writer here, but just as devastated! I relied on Mr. Segal's insight and views to keep me posted on the "whereabouts" of Los Angeles Ballet - indeed, I would eagerly scan the internet (as I live across the country) for any news after each of their performances and other activities.
What a shame! As I have no other "use" for LA Times, I guess I won't be reading any more of it!
I am also hoping this is not a sign of things to come for this young company...

Are you able to provide a link to the article? I searched for "Dance Now" and was unable to find this magazine -

This is wonderful. Thank you so much for doing this.
Amen to that! What a job! Thanks again -

What is the criteria for inclusion in the calendar? Are there larger sized companies only that are listed?
Thanks,

Actually, there is a Photo Gallery, where they require you to register & log in to view photos. It doesn't cost anything to register, but it is a little cumbersome, and none of the photos are labeled as to which dancers are whom! (was that correct?? )
Also, under "Press" there is an article that includes a nice photo of Larissa Ponomarenko & James Whiteside performing Viktor Plotnikov's "Tension and Beauty" :

The Festival of Two Worlds is being held in Spoleto, Italy June 29 to July 15. This is the 50th year of the festival, and for the first time, Youth America Grand Prix has been asked to bring children to perform as well as the professionals slated to attend. Is anyone planning to attend this festival who can report?

Hi Agnes -
Hoping it's allowed (I didn't see anything against it in Rules & Policies), I will include a couple of links to critics' reviews of the past Balanchine performances. There are several references to technique & virtuosity. This, combined with the Los Angeles Ballet "section" pointed out by Dale, might give you a broader view.
From the LA Times (5/26):
-
I'm going again on Saturday in Glendale. Hopefully they'll have cleaned up a lot of stuff.
Andrew - Did you go last night, and had it been cleaned up? :blink:I wish I could attend, but its not in the cards right now -

I was unable to find Alexander Dutko on their company roster this morning - did I miss something?
-
Did any one in the LA area attend last night's performance of "An Evening of Balanchine"? Any thoughts?
-
CarolinaM - thanks for the report! What a huge turnout - with Barcelona yet to go! I'm glad we made the decision to send DD & her D friend over to audition in Madrid, rather than wait to see if the auditions came to the US - it's been a wonderful experience for them. Now, to await the outcome...

Is the suggested contribution $ 15 for EACH site, or for the both?

Additionally, Principal Dancer Alexei Borovik will retire from the stage following the Company’s opening program, Romance and Revelry. Mr. Borovik will perform the lead in George Balanchine’s Apollo for the “Evening of Audience Favorites” program on Friday, October 13 at 7: 30 p.m.
“This year’s roster is very strong, and I am pleased to be able to promote these fine artists,” said Mr. Kaiser. “At the same time, we are sad to see Alexei retire after 14 years with the Company. His skill and artistry have been an enormous asset to Pennsylvania Ballet.”
Did anyone attend this farewell performance of Alexei Borovik? I would like to hear about it, as we could not attend -

I agree with you. He leaps so incredibly high, turns beautifully and stops on a dime; he can act...maybe they can just find shorter girls?
How tall is he? What height of woman (on pointe) would work?

Just a note to say I was able to order the new souvenir book from the Met Opera Shop (although it's "pre" order) -
-
Rats! I just tried to order tickets for ANY of the shows for DD & friends, but they are SOLD OUT, with the exception of 1 ticket available for the Saturday 2 pm show!
-
Yes, I noticed that as well -
-
Is there anywhere you can find the data on salaries over at ABT?
Yes, I was curious as to their salaries, as well.
-
The ticket information is on the release, in the last graph. The programs are outlined in the release.
Dale - thank you! As I have not found anything on either ABT's website or at www.jalc.org, I assume you must get advanced notice? At any rate, thank you! DD is in JKO school at ABT and this is exciting for her family

Eugene Fodor -I saw him when he performed at West Chester University's Music School (where I was briefly a student)around 1977? He was a gifted musician, and I was transported.
I hadn't realized he struggled so with life - hopefully, he's at peace now. So sad...
