  1. I was able to catch the Saturday evening performance and must say it was magical. I loved it so much that I am going again this evening....... KUDOS to all of the dancers..... I have not been able to find any of the reveiws so far on the ballet...can anyone help?

  2. I was at the performance on Saturday and it was wonderful. It never ceases to amaze me that with their already busy schedules, these dancers find the time to do this. Very Impressive, and what a a very worthy cause!!!! I hope to be able to attend Shut up and Dance every year.......

This years performances were wonderful. I thought Abigail Mentzer's spoof on the Four Swans was quite clever. Other favorites of mine were Adam Rodgers "Fe", Igal Perry's "Embrace", Hawley Rowe's "#3", and Christine Cox's "SynChronic". All in all, the evening was very entertaining and I loved the mix of classical to hip hop.

I was not able to attend Shut up and Dance last year, but was there in 04. I have to say, in my mind, the Forrset Theatre was a big improvement over the Mirriam. I felt like I was at a miniture version of the Academy House :clapping:

  3. After reading the marvelous reviews that PABallet received during their performances at the Edinbugh Festival this summer, I am elated that I will be able to attend their 2005/2006 season opening of Swan Lake.

I just went to the PABallet website to see if I could find the cast listing and noticed that it was not posted yet. Does anyone have any idea when they will be posting this? :tomato:

  4. If anyone was able to attend PABallet's performances in Scotland and has any info or pictures to share with us, I would love to hear all about it. Especially after reading all of the wonderful reviews, I am sooooooooooooo sorry that I was unable to go

  5. I have now had time to digest all of the reviews and it sounds like PABallet had a very successful tour to Scotland. From what I read, they were sold out everyday and in fact were turning away up to 300 people for every performance. I just wish I could have been in Scotland to see this magical experience. WRTI did a fabulous job of covering the event, with live broadcasts everyday. PABallet also did a wonderful job keeping their site up to date with Blogs, photos and press releases. If anyone went and has any pictures to share via Snapfish or another on line service. please let me know. Kudos PABallet...you are indeed deserving of this wonderful reception that you received in Scotland. I hope this leads to many more performances abroad. :off topic::)

  6. I am told that the company departs for Scotland tomorrow. If anyone is going to the performances, can you fill us in when you return? Unfortuantely, I am unable to attend but would love to hear how it all went. I think this is an exciting venture for PABallet and I only hope this leads to many more international tours for the company. I am also hoping that they can possibly make it out to the West Coast in the near future. I have season tickets to the OCPAC and would love to see them perform for our So Ca. audiences sometime soon. :)

  7. I know that PABallet is taking their new Swan Lake by Chris Wheeldon to the Edinburgh Festival this summer. I was fortunate enough to see the premiere of this ballet in Philly and was wondering why someone has not come and taped this production. There seems to be a lack of good videos for purchase (outside of those taken years ago) and I think this would be a fabulous one for someone to put out on video..... Just a thought  ....

  8. Yes, I did see both couples perform. I would have to say both couples did a fantastic job but Zach and Julie went over and above....they were exceptional and like I said in my previous post if not the best then certainly one of the best pas performances I have ever seen in my many years of going to the ballet. The chemistry between the two can not be described properly in words, you had to see it for yourself......... :)

  9. I was fortunate enough to be in Philly for the R & J performances. I was so taken back by PABallet performances that I actually went three times (seeing both casts). In my opinion and in my over 40years of going to the ballet, Zach and Julie's rendition of Romeo and Juliet was one of if not the best pas performances that I have ever seen. I could not hold the tears back. Unfortunately, I was not at the performance when Zach proposed to Julie, but I can only imagine how touching this must have been.

All in all every dancer in both casts did a fabulous job. Other roles that stood out in my mind were Amy Aldridge as the Lady Capulet and Gabrielle Yudenich at the Nurse. They both did a wonderful job portraying these roles in a very believable manner.

Once again, a wonderful job by the entire PABallet company. I have to say this is certainly one of the finest companies in America today and I for one look forward to seeing many more of their performances.

  10. There was a wonderful article about Rio this past weekend in the paper. If you did not get a chance to read it, you may want to try this link

or go to www.philly.com and search under the entertainment section for Riolama .

She is certainly a wonderful addition to PABallet and I for one can not wait to see her in upcoming productions. What I love most about her is the passion that she emits when dancing...she is hard to take your eyes off of. The ballet community needs more "passionate" dancers like this. I would certainly say this was NYCB's loss and PABallet's gain.

  11. balletmps, I would have to say I concur with you. There are a lot of beautiful dancers today, but these are some of my favorites, too. I am very familiar with your picks from NYCB, ABT, PABallet and SFB but not as familiar with the other two dancers. But since it appears we have similar taste, I am sure they must be lovely.

  12. Amy was out of the last series due to a back injury. As far as I have heard, she will hopefully be back to dance in the Concert Series. I agree with you, she was truly missed in La Fille. I am hoping to see her as Juliet in their final production for 05.

I am sorry that I had to miss Shut up and Dance. Can anyone share some of the highlights with us?
